I am going to Horse Trials at Chatsworth at w/e and have no idea what one wears; should I have wellies? Do people walk around or stay watching in one place? No idea, please advise.

Horse trials (even reasonably high profile ones like Chatsworth) are not dressy. If you have an invite to lunch in the owner's tent, you will need to be a bit smarter (smart casual - but more casual!) but if just a normal spectator, just whatever you are comfortable in - jeans, jumper etc. If the weather has been wet wellies or waterproof walking boots are a must as you will want to walk the cross country course (the most interesting bit and people walk about) - even if it is dry sensible footwear is a must, you are just in a field at the end of the day!
Enjoy

Thank you! Will head to Joules for jazzy wellies...

Boden cardi, trews and Hunters should cover it!

We went to Badminton the other week. Garb was mainly jeans/shorts afair - you'd look out of place if you dressed for Ascot!
Some young girls wore sandals and cotton dresses, and some women wore skirts but in a casual way - but mainly t-shirts/cardis/a few wellies/converse-type footwear for walking the course.
Maybe take a waterproof in case it rains.
