spring/summer coat?

have never been any good at buying coats. just dont seem to get it right. however as yesterday was very showery i realised i do need something, esp for work as have a bit of a walk from car to office. so was wondering, are trench coats/macs a bit 'over'? have seen this on offer but something about it is making me unsure - did i read something about double breasted not suitable for certain people??

so what do you think, or can you suggest any alternatives? dont want to spend £££ unless can also wear with jeans etc when not at work.

thanks muchly!

Will be watching with interest as i need a summer jacket - but am thinking more of a fleece replacement or big cardie than smart mac.

Didn't know which was worse MN crime - semi-hijacking your thread or starting competing one Grin.

No suggestions from anyone?

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 13/05/2011 21:22

I've got a cropped beige trench think and a just above the knee length blue trench coaty thing - both look good with jeans. Doble breasted and norks not great and the one you've linked to looks a bit too Sherlock Holmesian for my liking tbh.

I think you might get more wear out of a cropped single breasted one.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 13/05/2011 21:23

cropped beige trench THING not think

ggirl · 13/05/2011 21:27

nice but double breasted
I think double breasted only bad if you're exotremely large of nork and apple shape..are you?

ggirl · 13/05/2011 21:29

I love this one from asos would look great with jeans as well.

Mahraih · 13/05/2011 21:35

Double breasted = dangerous for those with large breastage. The one you suggested OP looks a bit stiff for summer IMHO.

I like the one ggirl suggested via asos. Also perhaps this one?

Traditional Mac, single-breasted, nice length.

Nice but a bit too macish for me. Part of my problem is that i don't know what i want. Something that serves the same purpose as a fleece or think cardie, but isn't a fleece or cardie.....

ggirl · 14/05/2011 11:04

one fo those quilted jackets?
i have one but they may be a tad too warm for what you're thinking of

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 14/05/2011 11:15

anything here?
or here?

I have this one, it is really nice but I am almost boobless, and rather hourglass

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 14/05/2011 11:24

For nosleep
not a fleece or a cardi
?
in the navy

OllieWollieWoo · 14/05/2011 11:25

This may not be suitable for work but I have this jacket from H&M in navy here. Brought it on sale thinking I would just wear it on the odd occasion but have ended up wearing a lot - looks good with breton tops underneath.
Great price too!

shelley72 · 15/05/2011 08:05

ggirl i think i am more of an hourglass shape if it helps - have shoulders and hips that are roughly the same but seem to go in quite a bit at the middle (jeans never fit properly for example). am a size 12 with 34D and shrinking boobs. like the style of the asos coat but think the colour wouldnt suit. i also like the one mahraih suggests. lemousquetaire thanks for the mango links, will have a proper look later as the page i opened was showing lots of dresses? however i did see a shift dress that may be suitable for work so thanks Smile!

I like your mac lemous but can't get the other links to work. Stripy sailor top nice but too smart for throwing on for the school run? (our school deson't seem to do fashion one up manship thank god).

But ooh - realised I missed the H&M link and I do like that one Ollie.

Thanks Shelly for sharing the thread Grin!
