Dear Johnnie

Ok Johnnie,

We have had a fairly easygoing relationship in the past, you sell clothes, I buy them ( although sometimes I have to return them due to dodgy sizing or styling but that's another story)

I have to say that lately I have been getting somewhat cold towards you.

Firstly there was the whole extra specially expensive range which seemed to mainly consist of garments that looked very much like what was available in the rest of the catalogue but made out of silk and twice the price.

Secondly I went to the Boden sale and had to pay £4 for the privilige of parking when Joules didn't charge me a penny, only to find boxes full of garments that would be rejected at a car boot sale due to lack of taste or attractiveness.

However the final thing which has pushed me over the edge is your delightful lifestyle magazine that arrived through my door this morning. I have scanned through it on the loo, thinking it might be another of your "summer update" catalogues which consist of 200 pages of things I have seen already, with about 3 new items, however it appears instead to be some sort of lifestyle magazine.
If I wished to read a lifestyle magazine, which I don't, I would purchase one to my taste, not some piece of tat cobbled together by your marketing department to make purchasers feel like they belong to some sort of elite group, but actually creates the opposite effect.

So here is the deal, why don't you focus on what you are good at - making middle range items for middle aged ladies and give all the other stuff a bit of a wide berth then we will all feel much better.

Yours ( despite myself forever)
Rookiemater

I recieved the lifestyle magazine today too! WTF!! Would rather have had £10 off something.

FrancesFarmer · 11/05/2011 17:43

Aw, I would love to receive this magazine. I'm sure it's unintentionally hilarious in many places.

rookiemater · 11/05/2011 17:44

FF I can send you my copy ( but I have received it only because I am a very special customer donchaknow because they say so so it must be true)

Will send you mine if you like :)

FrancesFarmer · 11/05/2011 17:46

^
That's nice of you but I'm in Ireland so the postage might be too high. If you spot any choice quotes, maybe you could post them up!

RunforFun · 11/05/2011 17:46

Actually I quite liked it Blush

Meggles76 · 11/05/2011 18:19

Grin @ Rookie
I have been faithful to Johnnie for many years now, despite saying it was over on more than one occasion. No lifestyle magazine for me as yet but I really hope to get one - just for laughs.
Agree that Johnnie should focus on getting his clothes back on track.

Soups · 11/05/2011 18:25

In the catalogue I want quotes from the male models.

charlieandlola · 11/05/2011 18:28

The best thing I ever did was to stop Johnnie sending me catalogues and post. I could have filled my recycling box each week with them.
Now he only emails - phew!

valiumbandwitch · 11/05/2011 18:32

lol @ quotes from the men. Favourite dish: Vindaloo and cobra. urr I mean fresh lobster and proseccho on the beach.

rookiemater · 11/05/2011 18:50

FF sorry I can't do any quotes as I threw it straight in the recycling, I guess I could rake it out again, but best not to I feel.

I had a horrible thought as to why Johnnie is doing this. I mean I'm not any sort of a marketing guru, but I wouldn't have thought that posting out this tosh would have had any positive impact on number of togs flogged. Therefore I suspect they must be planning to diversify, Boden furniture, Boden bedding, Boden bicycle accessories, the mind boggles and you heard it here first.

OP posts:
valiumbandwitch · 11/05/2011 18:52

And all of it ludicrously over priced.

kitkatya · 11/05/2011 18:59

I better not get one, it will be straight in the bin. Did you see him in the Rich List magazine? I wanted to punch his chops in.

Ps where is our spend £30 get £10 off code?

KeepCalmAndCurryOn · 11/05/2011 19:23

Rookie - there was speculation about that at their Autumn / Winter launch ...

rookiemater · 11/05/2011 19:47

Oh dear so I'm behind the times not at the vangard

I've had no magazine....And Johnnie you have taken the piss this week. Even with your Mini Boden clothes. I'm sending you back two items, as I found better quality for 20% of the price at H&M.

And no lifestyle magazine for me? Would that be because I order in DH's name, and you've heard him muttering that you are a twat, and if he ever bumps into you (DH thinks this is likely if we ever go to to Wooly Grange) he will tell you what he thinks of your over priced Boden Baggies.

Meggles76 · 11/05/2011 20:48

DH also not a fan of our Johnnie - 'effing Farqhar' (sp) apparently

rookiemater · 11/05/2011 20:50

Well Lynette I don't think they have terribly high quality control over who is lucky enough to get the magazine as I seem to spend most of my life traipsing to the post office to return items that strangely enough looked better on the 5ft10 size 8 airbrushed 25 year old than they do on me, in reality I probably keep about one item in five so I might be a loss maker rather than profit generator.

For the first time ever, I have found Boden fabulous this summer. I have 6 dresses that all fit beautifully, and I have had loads of compliments on them. Amazing.

I had written Boden off as frumpy, but was swayed by the fact they do summer dresses that are actually knee-length on me (am a 6 footer). Very hard to find.

The prices are frigging ridiculous, though. Come on! 80 odd quid for a thin jersey summer dress?

I didn't get a magazine, either. Angry

tulpe · 11/05/2011 20:58

I received my copy today too.

Can't say I was thrilled but it whiled away a rather boring wait in the car :)

LynetteScavo · 11/05/2011 21:15

Maybeitsbecause, can you link to the dresses?

this was lush, and I kept it, but so it should be at £17 Shock
