Seems to have put to many question marks in my post! so here it is again....

I hear a lot about healthy looking skin? But I don't even know what it means. What does it mean to everybody else?

Skin that is smooth and slightly matte but glowing from and an even tone all over within ie not dry and flaky, not spotty or shiny or with patches of red or brown.

MissFoodie · 10/05/2011 12:28

what everyone wants but few attain, especially without any make up!

Unwind · 10/05/2011 12:31

the way models look

after they've been made up and photoshopped

Apoole25 · 10/05/2011 12:47

Exactly, all I see are perfect photoshopped models but what is this in real life? If your skin was perfectly healthy what qualities would it have?

Thanks everyone, Keep them coming!

If your skin is perfect, you're a baby! You do sometimes see adults with skin like a small child's. I guess theirs is as perfect as it gets - but it doesn't actually look like the skin in the adverts. Advert skin is the same shade all over, the same degree of gentle sheen all over, and has no visible pores or hairs.
Impossible.

Even Adraiana Lima's isn't quite perfect Grin

Apoole25 · 10/05/2011 15:45

So true garlicbutter! Do you think wrinkles are natural or a sign of unhealthy skin? Like it losts it's elasticity and no longer sticks to my bones - is this unhealthy do you think? Or just me getting older!

my 8 yr old has perfect skin
no visible pores
not dry /not too oily

posey · 10/05/2011 15:49

For me (in my dreams!) it would be a slightly glowing skin, pinkish or slightly sunkissed, like you'd been out in the fresh air and had a bracing walk (how you look after a brisk walk on the beach)
No eye bags or rings, no spots, a few lines are fine.

garlicbutter · 10/05/2011 17:11

Apoole, there are hundreds of thousands of tiny strands of collagen that tie your skin to the underlying structure - that's what makes it "stick to your bones". With use over time, the strands get stretched and weak ... very weak in my case Grin

If you're actually looking much older than other people your age, it could be worth seeing a doctor. Otherwise, it just means you've been using your face for a while! Keeping well hydrated, using moisturiser and giving yourself facial massages will help your skin maintain its flexibility as long as possible.

You seem so knowledgable about this! all the info and science names! :o

I like Poseys answer too. I agree that fresh air feeling makes me feel healthy all over. Anybody have any other ideas for when their skin feels healthiest?

Of all the women I know, I only know one who has flawless skin and doesn't wear even a touch of makeup ... ever. She is in early thirties I think. Skin an alabaster shade (don't know if that's the right word). No marks of any kind, no red veins, no undereye shadows. Big eyes that look really clear in her face cos of the contrast to her skin, redder than average lips. I consider her a true natural beauty tbh. To add insult to injury, very nice and very smart too Envy Smile
