I hate it too, love the end result hate the fact 4 hrs later I spot a blob of developed dye on the bathroom worktop or tiles that I can't EVER shift Angry

piratecat · 10/05/2011 09:18

i hate that!

ok it's in. must say this Belle colour has been working well. i have used the slightly light one today ( i have dark hair and grey roots) so am hoping for a less dyed look!

have decided if i start doing it more often it wont be so hard to face! 4 weeks max from now on .

don't, i need to do this and really can't be arsed

EttiKetti · 10/05/2011 09:23

Desp to do mine, so bored of it but had a really crap strange highlighting experience a month ago and god only knows what a home colour over the top would do to it.....

piratecat · 10/05/2011 09:24

i wish i could afford to get it done in a salon!

I know exactly what you mean about not being arsed, BC -- and EttiKetti, have over the years (went grey UNFAIRLY EARLY) ruined a white shower curtain, a floor tile, an Agnes B. blouse that was hanging innocently on the shower rail to dry, and only three weeks ago the bathroom wall I had recently painted.

piratecat · 10/05/2011 09:25

i normally look in the mirror when its due for about a week, sigh and walk away!
i went grey at 16 not fair is it!

OMG Mitten :o Mine is just a permanent purpley colour on the counter top by the sink in the bathroom and a splatter on a tile thank god :o

I went to the local hairdressing college to have the highlights done piratecat - you get what you pay for Shock altho everyone but me loves it!

Dropdeadfred · 10/05/2011 10:07

I would love to go grey...then have gorgeous silvery hair...

superv1xen · 10/05/2011 10:11

what sort do you use, i have been using that new john frieda mousse and its much easier, not messy or fiddly at all.

IShallWearMidnight · 10/05/2011 10:12

I'm letting my dye grow out (last permanent dye was last June and I put a semipermanent through it in November). Dye is mostly all gone at one side and about half way there at the other. The DDs tell me it looks good, and doesn't make me look old. I'm not so convinced, but was just so fed up of the roots showing after two weeks.
(am almost totally grey at the front, less so at the back)

NotFromConcentrate · 10/05/2011 10:13

It's has to be one of the least rewarding tasks ever, unless you're going for a Major Change.

I did mine last night. To give you the incredibly dull background, my hair is naturally dark blonde, but has been plum for years. I have, for the last four months, been gradually lightening it and reducing the red.

So, last night was The Night. The blonde dye, which promised to blondify even dark brown hair, went on. I waited, slowly succumbing to the smell of ammonia, for forty minutes. It did fuck all lightened it by the tiniest fraction ever. Talk about deflated.

Anyway, go and do it. Then it'll be over with for another few weeks, nd you can enjoy the lack of roots/grey/nagging feeling that you should do it :o

MollysChamber · 10/05/2011 10:15

I dye my hair myself it is a pain.

Found this picture of Tamsin Greig inspiring though

I think she looks amazing. I may stop dying my hair. But not while I'm still in my 30's Grin

smartyparts · 10/05/2011 10:25

I started going grey at 15.

I was just peering a my roots in the mirror - i have barely any dark hair left Sad

I desperately need to dye today but can't be arsed.

BunnyLebowski · 10/05/2011 10:33

Rather than dye mine every 3 weeks (which I would have to-2 boxes each time as well) I eke it out an extra week by using mascara on my roots Shock Blush.

Dying is a ball-ache but love the swishy glossy feeling afterwards.

mittenkitten007 · 10/05/2011 10:36

If mine were uniformly grey I would leave it but it is only nice and silvery around the hairline (particularly behind the ears). On top it is a combination of brown mixed with wiry grey strands. Left to its own devices it merely looks messy and slightly mad.

piratecat · 11/05/2011 08:17

well the decision to go one shade lighter has paid off, Belle colour, can't rate it enough. It does fade a little after 4 weeks but then i only do the roots and a little more and it restores it. I find the ends match in much better that way.
