Pandora bracelets... are they worth the money?

OK, so I am talking about the gold ones as I can only wear gold.

I was looking at them yesterday, and to be honest I was quite shocked at the prices. The bracelet alone with nothing on it was about GBP 1,000 (I'm abroad, hence the approximation). Then the charms were about GBP 400 each. The girl at the counter was explaining to me that you should get given one at every birthday, Christmas and life event (having a baby, etc.). However, if my DH bought me a 400 quid charm, there is no way he would get me anything else. He is a bit of a tight wad, though Grin

Anyway, I am not even sure if I like them, but feel strangely drawn towards them. Can anybody who has one share their experiences?

Thanks Smile

... oh, and hijack away, I am also interested in Malaysia as a possible next stop. Why is it that every British person out here tends to follow the same path: England - Dubai - Far East - Australia - England.

The best Jewellers (to make you something) would IMO be Cara's or is it Clara's Hmm, anyway it's in the new gold souk off sheik Zayed rd. I had my wedding ring copied as i wanted to have the same for an eternity ring, it's a perfect copy, the diamonds are even better quality and it cost 1000 uk pounds less than my wedding ring! Shock

Damas are also very good for pre made pieces, the diamonds all come with proper certification too. Dh purchased my diamond for my engagement ring there a few years back, when it was set and valued in London it was worth over 12,000 uk pounds, with is way more than he paid.

As for the trend in following the same path, i have no idea....i think we might all be brainwashed! Grin

That sounds great, Barbie. So they can copy anything? Ooh, that's tempting! Where is the new Gold Souk? I have never been there.

Thanks Smile

I'm in KL, Barbie1.

barbie1 · 09/05/2011 05:53

Yep, they copy everything! Wink Get yourself to all the top end jewelry store and pinch borrow their brochures.

Last time i went there, they were copying the new Tiffany 'key' necklaces, one lady was on her third order (yes i was eavesdropping!), she said they were exact match and 2/3rd's cheaper than the real thing.

The new souk is closer to M.O.E mall, same side of road, just before garden centre and mini monsters. Let me know if you need any more advice.

Oh and don't forget to haggle!

barbie1 · 09/05/2011 05:55

eek! slightlyreluctantexpat...do you like it? Is it baby friendly? Gosh i have so many questions! Can you point me in direction to any web pages for info on KL (sorry to bombard you!) We will be moving in sept/ oct time. Smile

Slightlyreluctantexpat · 09/05/2011 06:01

I'll pm you, Barbie1, otherwise we'll be filling up this serious Pandora thread with KL shit. Grin

BornAgainBitch · 09/05/2011 06:02

barbie1 · 09/05/2011 06:12

Blush sorry bornagainbitch for pinching your thread...

BornAgainBitch · 09/05/2011 06:15

Worth mentioning that if you do go to find Cara/ Clara at the souk, its in the middle and will be the most populated shop. They have a web page too if you google...

BornAgainBitch · 09/05/2011 06:30

Here's the website in case anybody else is interested:

Hi BornAgain - sorry, please don't let us put you off the charm bracelet idea completely. I love charm bracelets and think they can be lovely! I'm just a bit dubious about the Pandora way of doing charm bracelets. But as others have said, if you are in Dubai, well, you're absolutely spoilt for choice. You can get something wonderful and unique - and you could easily still ask for a charm for birthdays if it would work well for your DH knowing what you would love as a present. And they needn't be so pricey either...a lovely jewellery shop in London, a boutique style place sells charms starting from £30 [silver, though, you can only wear gold?] but so much more reasonably priced than up to £400! Good luck and happy shopping Smile

Slightlyreluctantexpat · 09/05/2011 06:42

BornAgainBitch and Barbie1, I've pmed you both. Identical waffling messages about Kuala Lumpur from me to you. Enjoy! Grin
