Looking for non frumpy swimsuit which hides tops of thighs

Rosebag · 06/05/2011 15:42

For the very first time recently, I didn't feel confident to wear a swimsuit on the beach. I usually deal with the droopy boobs (32F) with underwires and a built- in bra and keep tummy covered with a one piece or tankini. But the thighs...too dimpled, wobbly and veiny. Any ideas? Are there any skirted costumes out there that aren't frumpy? I am a size 14, non- frumpy 50 year old whose face belies my age but whose body gives the game away when uncovered!

Doesn't cover all of thighs and is £££ but if you read the reviews is very flattering and is also very lovely here

magicmelons · 06/05/2011 17:16

I love the spotty one.

Board shorts look hip and vaguely sporty. They come in different lengths.

I like boy shorts, but they leave the thighs exposed.

zoggs and adidas do an all in one where the bottom bit looks like short cycling shorts.

Blardy heaven!

I've just bought a M&S skirted one in black (32F), there are some in Debenhams in navy polka dots but you must get the underwired version. Figleaves do a nice one by Zoggs in navy too.

I thought I couldn't wear a non-underwired one at that size but the tummy toning on some suits helps keep the boys up and in their (nearly) rightful placeSmile, esp the M&S ones.

Seafolly -the english rose suit is gorgeous & Land's End do them too.

moragbellingham · 06/05/2011 17:55

or this?

moragbellingham · 06/05/2011 17:56

boy leg?

PinkIsMyFavouriteCrayon · 06/05/2011 20:46

I just bought this one yesterday, am 34F with a bit of unwanted flab, it's quite flattering.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. It's nice to know people out there understand the thigh problem!!! It's actually one of the hardest to disguise if you still want to feel like you're wearing a cossie. I look ridiculous in a sarong...like a barrel draped in a net curtain, and obviously you can't swim in it! I'm not great with boy shorts/boy leg costumes as my thighs just bulge out of the bottom of them all the more!!! I DO like the Seafolly one and the Debenhams one with the little skirts though. I wonder if they'll cover enough? Think I might try to order them!

You may have already ordered but I have this one and it is really nice and has great support for my 30ffs!

Kalypso · 07/05/2011 19:38

What about this? I'm sure how supportive it would be in the boob department though.

Blue Boat Print Playsuit Topshop one

I got a similar style swimsuit from TkMaxx and I'm so pleased with it.

Rosebag · 08/05/2011 11:39

Well, I went to order the Debenhams one and the site was showing out of stock in everything but a size 10. However, I called the customer service number and managed to order a a size 14L in the black, and apparently there's a red one too so ordered that as well. I'm a little worried as I sometimes have to size up in swimwear but there's no 16's to be had at all. Hoping that the increased length will be ok. Will see how these are when they arrive and if no good will look at the other links again. The Seafolly one seems to be completely out of stock at the moment. The playsuit looks cute, Kalypso!

I love the boy leg one.

moragbellingham · 08/05/2011 14:38

I might be wrong, but the red one from Debenhams isn't under-wired - only the gorgeous range is.
I tried it on and there was not much support at all - they were escaping downwards!

The M&S skirtsuit appears to have disappeared from the website along with alot of the other tummy control suits. Apparently there was an advert with them on and this is why - according to a sales assistant they've flown off the shelves.

Rosebag · 09/05/2011 09:14

Oh dear...won't be much good without cast iron support...however I'll see what they're like when they arrive!

i feel your pain. The rest of me is Ok but my thighs are shit. And my legs are short, so skirted things, boy legs and shorts are all hideous on me. I find that a normal leg swimsuit is the least awful (and the most comfy, the boy leg pants work their way up my arse crack due to massive thighs chafing together), and then draw attention from the revolting thighs by having my very respectable cleavage on prominent display.

Rosebag · 22/05/2011 11:35

Thought I'd update the thread. Took delivery of the Debenhams skirted costumes...actually they're lovely from the thigh coverage point of view and don't look frumpy...quite nice and retro, but the sizing was a problem and couldn't get any other sizes...sold out online and there were only very large sizes left in store. HOWEVER, I have just taken delivery of a skirted tankini from Lands End and I'm so happy with it. Really flattering, nice ruched, skirted bottoms and (thank heavens), under wired top. Have ordered in another colour although the colours of the tops are rather restricted. I also ordered an additional bottoms in a colour that looks like it will go with another tankini top I have got!Tankini top
Skirted bottoms

The top is actually a lot sexier than it looks in the link...gives lovely shape cleavage!!

Rosebag, I like the swim mini skirts, very tempted.

cyb · 22/05/2011 21:12

Oh ladies ladies ladies

NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE ON THE BEACH.They are all too busy stressing about theri own body issues, or not, as the case may be

Do you remember anyones body from your last trip to the beach or pool? Someone whose thighs were so vile you are still talking about it today? No, didnt think so

Stop covering up and have fun. Or wear a sarong for walking around in

Rosebag · 22/05/2011 23:28

Well, I suspect that different things make people confident. With me it's covering the bits I don't like and enhancing the bits I do. I agree with you cyb. I doubt anyone was looking at my thighs. But I didn't like looking at them!! I feel pretty in my new swim skirts....and intend to have a lot of fun in them. As I said in an earlier post, sarongs don't work so well for me...however I do have a saress for walking around in, (a short one) and find it great!
