thin, curly/frizzy, greying hair...

... I'm painting an attractive picture, non?
I have an appointment booked for a haircut tomorrow, hair needs a drastic overhaul.
I had DS2 4 months ago so hair is still falling out in handfuls and you can see the light through it. It's just below shoulder length and I basically look like Wurzel Gummidge on one of his worse hair days.
I have quite a strong, square jaw, but would love a shorter style.
Any hints for something that is easily manageable but doesn't make me look too mumsy? Are short curls a definite no-no?

Oh you sound just like me!

I have no idea, I also have thin frizzy, curly/wavy hair (not super curly) with lots of white and grey now. Have just had a chin-length bob but that's more through pragmatic thinking than stylish-ness as about to have dc3 and don't want to have to tie it back all the time. Would love to hear what people would recommend.

Maybe it's just us. Sad.
I did actually just do a google of Meg Ryan haircuts as she seems to wear short curly do's quite well. But then she is alsogorgeous and has lovely blond hair, which helps...
I now have loads of white hairs too, but don't want to go granny too soon, so may consider highlights although I think there is too much natural red in my hair and it's probably not good for the condition.
Good thinking on the tying back. I'd forgotten about the hair grabbing. It bloody hurts but I look terrible with hair tied back so must go for the chop.
