Losing the hair dye.... The natural way?

hello :)

Well im looking for any tips, tricks etc to try and get my hair back to a natural colour.

My hair is like a dark blonde mousey brown colour but have been dying it for ages. I tend to have it dyed a red brown colour however last time they ran out of my colour so had it a purple brown.

I had read about cheap shampoo and vitamin c tablets and tried that last night. Its taken a lot of the purple tinge of my hair and is now looking how it used to be with the red in it (it also left it amazingly shiny and soft for anyone who may be interested) so it kind of worked i suppose.

So do any of you no of any other ideas? Ive heard of washing powder or baking soda but no idea what your suppost to do with them :S

Thanks in advance

There is this \link{http://www.boots.com/en/Colour-B4-Hair-colour-remover-extra-strength-by-Scott-Cornwall-hair-expert-_1000976/\Hair colour remover} from Boots (and probably elsewhere). No idea what it does to your hair though.

thanks Jackie just read a few of the reviews on there and most sound promising with the odd ginger yellow and green results for the mix :L.

i think i may try the vitamin C and shampoo again as still have some left and if its still not quite right i think that may be my next option.

Colour B4 from boots and super drug. see this www.scottcornwall.com/shop/product/colour_b4_extra_strength. I've used it. Hair a bit orange but then dyed over it. Join scott cornwall's facebook page and he'll give you one on one advice how to do it. It will leave the top lighter than the ends if you've been dying for ages. I lightened the ends with bleach. Whatever you do you will probably end up a bit orange, but Scott will help you pick a colour to dye over it with. Mine was really black and horrible and is now a nice choclatey brown. Probably spent about £30 on colour B4, bleach and dye getting it right, but a salon would cost £100's.

Thank you so much guys. I ran (literally) to boots today and got the extreme one as its darker and ive had multiple dyes on it. Just in the process of a strand test well 2 from different sections of my hair so they should be finished in half a hour so will update you on how it goes later. Buy 2 get one free aswell and they charged me wrong so got three boxes for 14.30 when they should be 12.25 each soo was a bargin :)

Fingers crossed that it works then Smile

LovelyDaffs · 03/05/2011 22:21

I've used it twice in the last few months and its worked well both times.

toddle · 04/05/2011 09:34

lovelydaffs did it go back to your natural colour and look ok or did you need to dye it over. Or if you wanted to could you havee got away with just leaving it?

Oh and the strand test ended it a nice honey blonde brown colour so i think i may be slapping it on my whole head shortly

Colour b4 worked really well for me - got loads of the colour out and my hair was ok after. I haven't dyed it after as I am going natural

Arghh well its been on my head 50 mins and its looking pretty light. Poss ginger in places but about to wash it of. If nothing else at least the dark brown/red/purple has gone. Eeek

Cmot what colour was you hair before if you dont mind me asking

I thought it was back to my natural colour, which has some red anyway. After a few weeks I had some roots, so it must have slightly lightened it but I liked the colour anyway. Once the roots showed I used another semi permanent with no problems.

Hope it's gone well.

CMOTdibbler · 04/05/2011 13:37

My hair was reddy brown - if you look on my profile, the pic with the red spotty dress was when I last dyed it. Now I am white at the front, grey at back

toddle · 04/05/2011 14:08

Yeah i had some roots from when it was dyed before and they are now darker then the rest of my hair. Its defo a bit ginger kind of like that girl out of girls aloud when she had it blonde/light ginger kinda look. The colour could be a lot worse i suppose just a bummer it looks like i have roots :(
