Wedding Outfit help

Hello there

I am totally clueless about what to wear to my sister's wedding in 5 weeks. I opted not to be a bridesmaid but she is having four who will be wearing pinks and purples (each has a slightly different shade, graded). My mother is wearing this with a hat and my son is a page boy (grey, pink tie to match the groom, other groomsmen wearing purple ties).

Anyway, she wants me to "match"/blend in but I don't know where to start.

I am 5 ft 9 and a size 14-16 mainly in proportion, bra size 38C-D, wibbly wobbly tummy but decentish legs and arse but can't really wear high heels (dicky back). Can manage 2-3 ins only.

Any ideas? She wanted me to wear some dress from Coast that was purply with flowers on it (shift dress) but it seems to be gone and I can't find online.

All help gratefully received. I am clueless!

LK Bennett are doing some nice dressy stuff this season. Here are their purple dresses
They also have this one on special offer which I think is v pretty with the v-shape at the back.
Shoes-wise, I got these recently which go with everything. They are not too high and v comfy. I can see that a lot of sizes are sold out on the site but if you have a store near you, you could give them a call. I think that style of shoe is popular at the moment so you could get something similar.
You could do a nice statement necklace and a fab fascinator, maybe in a contrasting shade?
Hope that helps...I will have a look around other sites too

vibrant maxi? Perhaps too casual for your sisters wedding?

FebreezeYourJeans · 02/05/2011 14:17

maxi again
I would want to beware of looking too much like a wanna be bridesmaid. I do think it is a bit odd for your sister to expect you to 'blend in'

FebreezeYourJeans · 02/05/2011 14:21

dramatic, but might be a bit too short at 5'9

coast this is lovely and would suit your shape I think. But I do wonder if it's too bridesmaidy.

Great suggestions there. I like the colour of the vibrant maxi but think it is a bit beachy. The bridesmaid colours are pale pink, lilac, coral and deep purple (but a bit more graded than that suggests, I guess). They are wearing strapless with a white beaded sash, quite formal, satiny. My sister is adamant I can't wear green or royal blue.

I think the colour of the LK bennett dresses are also nice and some of them are really appealing, must look at jackets too. And hats/fascinators. And decide a colour for that!

Her other idea was for me to wear a plain block dress with a suitably coloured jacket/hat/shoes. Something a bit like Joss Stone at the Royal wedding, I'm guessing (not that colour though) e.g. [[http://media.onsugar.com/files/2011/04/17/5/192/1922564/7d4dd51fff0bc9ad_joss_stone.jpg here}}.

My sister is a bit of a bridezilla. She has ultra control over every aspect of this wedding, but I think it's mainly to do with her anxiety about moving in with the in-laws (she will be living in his family home as his dad has recently died and he is youngest of 7). So we are smiling and nodding! She is also only in her early 20's!

Oh I like that dramatic one, but could be a bit short alright! That looks a great site though, thanks

I bought the Irah dress from Coast in Violet recently - it is a very bright purple.

Six people have tried my dress on which is a size 16

Mum - 5 foot 9 and about a size 12 - aged 68 and didn't want anything too short
Aunty - 5 foot 9 and about a size 14
Cousin - 5 foot 7 and a fairly big 14, has a bit of a tummy
Me - 5 foot 7 and a big 14/small sixteen - big tummy and bum, good legs
Sister - 5 foot 6 and an average 14 - not so much of a tummy but a bum
Friend - 5 foot 5 and a small sixteen - big boobs, flat tummy, bigger thighs

The same dress looks great on all of us! which is really weird, on my mum it looks a wee big but on everyone else it looks amazing, it is so nicely cut it seems to cover a multitue of sins!
