Slim jersey maxi skirts? I want one but where will I find one?

I was in Reiss looking at all the lovely things I can't afford when I saw a gorgeous slim jersey maxi skirt in a sort of jade green. I got excited and started picturing it with a plain black or white vest and flat sandals.... But on closer perusal so that it was, in fact, a calf length bandeau dress. Ugh. Such disappointment.

So now I keep thinking about wanting a beautiful jersey maxi skirt in a gorgeous bright colour for this summer. Sort of like a wearable version of the Jill sander bright skirt and White t shirt look that's been in all the mags but you'd only wear if you were six feet tall and loaded. I am neither.

So any ideas? I haven't seen anything like this anywhere but surely it must exist?! Any suggestions gratefully received.

i've not seen the jill sander one but i like this . any good?

moondog · 02/05/2011 06:43

God it sounds hideous, so don't unless you are size 8 and about 6 foot..

blue2711 · 02/05/2011 08:01

Thanks ohcobblers. Nice but not what I have in my head! Too full and flouncy, I'm after something narrower I think. Almost tube like.

Moondog, I'm a size 6 but very short! I wear maxi dresses in this style though and they look ok. As long as there's not loads of material and there's a belt at the waist. And bright colours are everywhere this season and look gorgeous I think!

Topshop?

accessorizequeen · 02/05/2011 10:02

I think wrap online had one?

orangina · 02/05/2011 10:08

There is a nice one in Gap I bought a few weeks ago. Not dead straight, but all the more flattering for it I would say. Has fold over bandeau at the top, great for the flat of tum (er, not me....), or you can unfold it.

Will see if I can find it on the gap website, but I think it cost me about £20, I bought it in black, available also in grey, have already worn it a LOT....

orangina · 02/05/2011 10:09

here it is. Looks quite flarey online, less so on.

GatOwfMarLaaaaandInnit · 02/05/2011 10:20

I am 6 foot and a size 8, I tried on of these on, and it looked monstrous. Made me look fat. Mind you my legs are short in proportion with my height anyway, but this thing made me look stumpy. Perhaps it was the cut, I don't know.

I tried on a fitted jersey maxi skirt (basically a long vest) and that was OK, a lot better than the skirt, but still nothing special.

I don't get maxi skirts.

Thanks for suggestions. Orangina, that looks close and I'm going to go in to the shop and try to find one and try it on. But I still dream of a bright colour...!

GatOwf, I can't imagine that you could look fat and stumpy in anything! Is it the GAP one you tried?

For me, maxi skirts are about a) covering my white, often inexpertly shaved legs and b) making me feel less little-girlish, which I fear I look in shorter skirts (from the neck down only, sadly).

hi there, I bought one from matalan the other week for a tenner. Its very comfy, sliming and stylish. They only had a black or a combat green one. It keeps it shape and washes well. I got a black one and it hangs well over my lumps and bumps. I have lots of compliments, i dont know how to do links but have a look on the website.

uggmum · 02/05/2011 17:18

Boden have some in their summer range
Available in 4 diff colours for £55

goingmadinthecountry · 02/05/2011 22:51

My neighbour (neither 6ft, size 8 or aged 22) wore one the other day and looked fantastic. Think it prob was not cheap though. Am currently looking for one - will trawl Bluewater tomorrow.

Moondog, you really can be unbelievably miserable and confidence knocking,

FebreezeYourJeans · 02/05/2011 23:13

a size 8 could pull this off

FebreezeYourJeans · 02/05/2011 23:16

DP patterned?

polyhymnia · 02/05/2011 23:41

Have ordered the Wrap 'longline jersey skirt', shown in same link as posted by ohcobblers but it hasn't arrived yet so can't report back. Am hoping it's not too tube-like as, though tall, am also large ...

polyhymnia · 02/05/2011 23:41

PS I'm sure Autograph have a slim one ....

RamblingRosa · 03/05/2011 14:20

I think Asos have got loads.

dairymoo · 03/05/2011 17:56

I've been thinking about getting this one from H&M in the pink colour, but haven't seen it in the flesh and think it could look a little stiff. Has anyone tried it?

FaffTastic · 03/05/2011 18:37

Oooh, I LOVE the patterned DP one that Febreeze linked. Will have to go to the nearest DP later on in the week as have a lovely outfit going on in my head at the mo.

mrmistoffelees · 03/05/2011 22:19

I tried this skirt which is quite a nice shape but only comes in black and grey.

OhCobblers · 03/05/2011 22:32

polyhymnia will you report back once yours has arrived please? Smile

pinksky · 03/05/2011 22:32

I just brought this www.frenchconnection.com/product/woman+collections+dresses/71JE5/Wonderwings+Jersey+Maxi.htm from French Connection and I really love it. Slimmer than most maxis I've tried and very flattering. It also comes in black and navy
