Any tips on creating a bun using one of those doughnut ring things?

Have bought a doughnut ring for my hair after a colleague showed me how to use one. She made it look so easy - my first attempt looked a mess and not even in a nice messy way. Any tips please?

I can't copy You Tube links from the iPad, but if you enter 'The sock bun secret' into google, you will get the link.

She uses a sock instead of a doughnut but the principle is the same.

Wish I'd seen that before I forked out for a doughnut ring! I haven't got anywhere near as much hair as the lady in the video but that has given me some ideas, thanks
