Colour Me Beautiful questions!

I'm getting married this autumn, and I'm hoping to do my own make up etc, as well as shopping for a non-wedding wedding dress (i.e not an ivory one). I had a colour me beautiful consultation a couple of years ago, and found it brilliant, but since then I've had two children and lost all style (and my colour swatches!). I'm contemplating forking out for a colour/style consultation, as well as a bridal make up session, mainly in the hope of making my bridal shopping go more quickly, since I don't get a lot of free time with 2 LOs!

So, basically I'm wondering if anyone thinks that the colour/style consultation is worth it, and if anyone has any experience on the staying power of the make up? I can't find any reviews online, and I'm worried that it will be a bit cheap and not go the distance.

Go for House of Colour- I thought it was brilliant. Didn't have the style consultation though. If you want to learn to do your own make up, I recommend going to Bobbi Brown- they are so lovely and will you lessons (esp. if you tell them it's for your wedding).

I had a colour me beautiful consultation recently and loved it. I am a Summer can you remember what you are? If you can they have books that you can buy that will tell you your colours. If I could have found the money I would have had her style me too but alas not just now. But as you are shopping for something specific wouldn't it be worth getting an appointment with a personal shopper in for example John Lewis instead. Anyway, best of luck and congratulations

I'd second the John Lewis personal shopper idea. A friend of mine does this twice a year. I went with her once and was really impressed. Really helpful staff and interesting choices of clothes; the kind of things you might not choose for yourself but that look really good. I'd do it myself if I could justify the expense (you can, OP, as it's wedding shopping ) and if I lived in the UK.

I bet you can find out your colours without going through the consultation again, as Buddhastic says. I'm a Spring; bright greens, oranges, and so on but no black or red. You probably remember the gist of yours too. Bet you could google it, or buy one of their books.

I thought about just getting a personal shopper for wedding dress (actually, might do that anyway!), but as I'm hoping to become vaguely stylish again, I was thinking that style/colour consultation might help with other clothes too.

Can't remember what I was - was 'warm & something' (wasn't described by season), but I remember that the lady had huge trouble deciding on my colours as I have slightly unusual skintone (indian great grandparents on one side, pale irish father).

Any further thoughts on CMB colour/style consultation and CMB makeup much appreciated!

Try clear spring. Google it for palette. It means that you can wear black but not White andvthat you suit bright contrasting colours that veer slightly towards warm but you are closer to cool IYSWIM.

Ps I have an Irish father with pale Celtic skin and an olive skin toned mother and this is what seems to work for me.

Go for House of Colour, without question. I've experienced several different 'colour' 'style' 'personal shopper' experiences over the years and all have been more valuable, useful, usable thanks to the information and training that I got through having my consultation with House of Colour, it gave me the confidence to know when they were suggesting the right stuff for me and when they were going with fashion or some other agenda.

At my wedding I did my own make up and loved being in control of that aspect of it. It also made choosing my dress, bridesmaids, flowers, husbands suit, mothers outifts - more of less everything associated with the theme, much easier.

In my opinion the Colour me beautiful make up is shite. The shades may be right, but the quality is just not there. I wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole if it hadn't have been for the fact it was done in the colour ranges. You will be better off going to a decent make up counter or several and see which one you like the best.

This is exactly why I miss Prescriptives so much.

nicole I suspected as much - I vaguely remember trying a friend's CMB eye shadow many moons ago, and it was crap.

Think I'll still get colour consultation done though - now to find a consultant near me who is vaguely stylish...

Just caught up on the latest - nicole333, I've used House of Colour make up since my consultation in 1998 and while I've tried others (No7, Clarins, Chanel) no lipsticks have the staying power I've experienced with HOC, I can't be bothered to find a match on foundation anywhere else because everyone else changes their ranges at regular intervals and I'm too lazy - HOC got me a great colour match and it's easy to order on line. I'm also really happy with the eyeshadows/blushers which I think are comparable to others and the volumising mascara that's just been introduced -it saves me trogging round trying to find the latest on the high street!

They've recently introduced a make up primer which I use everyday and love it - I'm giving to my friend who is getting married to wear on her wedding day. There's an offer on at the moment if you want to take a look!
