Summer Ball - Dress To Impress - HELP

An aunt is having a summer ball for her birthday. Dress code black tie ladies dress to impress.

Help. I am 5ft 4 so a little on the short side, aged 37 a size 12 with milk bottle white skin but an OK cleavage.

And I have zilch budget. Ideally I would spend less than £50 but not sure if that is possible. Certainly can't afford more than around £70-80.

Any ideas, anyone seen any bargains. Thought of trying Sainsbury's or Asda. Do they do evening wear?

If you want full length, I think this is a great bargain. Or do you want knee length?

elphabadefiesgravity · 29/04/2011 23:15

That is beautiful and I loe the colour but is a bit pricey.

the problem with full length is often they sweep the floor. I can't wear maxi dresses as they are way too long. I would have to try things on.

Empire and things fitted under the bust do tend to suit me. The strapless corset style bodice doesn't suit me.

Unfortunately I don't have a JOhn Lewis near to me. There is a Debenhams in town.

nice
do you suit brown?
pink
black

elphabadefiesgravity · 29/04/2011 23:38

I like the brown and pink ones. The pink is very bright, a lot brighter than I would usually got for but dh says I need to get some bright colours instead of black and purple all the time.

herbeieta, can you send stuff back to sexy her if they don't fit?

ebay is your friend. Seriously. Search for Monsoon dress size 12 and there are loads of lovely dresses which are brand new, being sold by ebay shops because they're last season. here

I've bought loads of good, brand new stuff on ebay for a fraction of the cost.

vintageteacups · 30/04/2011 10:30

second the ebay thing - I go to lots of evening do's and I've recently purchased some beautiful gowns.

Type the make (monsoon etc) and then your size into the search and it'll narrow it down.

If it's a ball, then you really should wear long.

Yes, do look on ebay, and what are the charity shops like in your area?
You can pick up some fantastic evening dresses, and £50 should get you something lovely!

Also, Oxfam have an online shop including evening dresses - you can search on size and price, and there are some great bargains.
