...according to you fashionistas, what the hell am I going to wear over a maxi dress to a May wedding?! The maxi is a print one, though I can't find a link for it right now ... Had been considering something like www.monsoon.co.uk/boleros+shrugs/cobalt-pointelle-shrug/invt/83309961/ but now you're telling me I'll look like a seven year old in a party dress www.mumsnet.com/te/5.gif

So what's the alternative then?

Oops sorry about that rogue .gif at the end!

Can't find your 2nd link but there is nothing wrong with that bolero, it's a lovely colour for a start.

Soups · 29/04/2011 15:29

Ski jacket.

BigSooz · 29/04/2011 15:30

A good shurg or cropped cardi = classic and cannot possibly be 'out'

Agree re: pashminas, though.

cruelladepoppins · 29/04/2011 15:33

Yes, I fancy a good shurg ...

blossoming · 29/04/2011 15:35

Linen jacket with sleves rolled up?

BigSooz · 29/04/2011 15:41

If you wear a nice shrug you may well end up getting a good shurg, too! Grin

dexter73 · 29/04/2011 15:42

How about a cloak? Wink

Helltotheno · 29/04/2011 15:45

Oh chance'd be a fine thing!
Well I'm not really after a pashmina but cardis and shrugs seem to be passé according to a thread below so am getting a bit worried. The only ones I can see are the Monsoon ones. Yes that blue one is a lovely colour but since that colour isn't even in the dress, I'll have to get the peach, red or white one.
Or what about gold? Is that incredibly naff?

Failing all, I suppose I could go with a ski jacket ... might be unseasonably cool that day :)

ok have decided on a different maxi dress which is this one in a size 10
cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-BODEN-APPLIQUE-MAXI-DRESS-14-LONG-/270738865907?_trksid=p4340.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DDLSL%252BSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D8%26pmod%3D170609607126%252B170609607126%26po%3D%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8799873659797587085

That link is bloody huge sorry.
So what to wear with this one then? White shrug?

OP posts:
cruelladepoppins · 29/04/2011 17:12

But ... but ... that would go with the original bolero cardi you linked to. [cconfused] Just saying.

Helltotheno · 29/04/2011 17:27

You think? Must bring it to Monsoon and see if they're the same shade of blue. Would it be a bit matchy? Will be looking for either a white wedge heel or one the same colour as the band in the dress...

Butterbur · 29/04/2011 17:39

Damn it Dexter. That cloak's all sold out!

noddyholder · 29/04/2011 18:56

I am never getting rid of my pashminas I have had them forever!

dexter73 · 29/04/2011 19:12

Oh no Butterbur! You must be so disappointed!

Helltotheno · 29/04/2011 21:40

ok suck it up ladies, if a SHURG - and a fuzzy one to boot - is good enough for the Duchess of Cambridge, then I guess it'll have to be good enough for all of us!

animula · 30/04/2011 17:13

I'm with Helltotheno.

Admittedly, taking fashion lessons from the British upper classes is probably not advisable, but at the very least, it suggests these items are on a fashion reprieve - however temporary. Though I did think the fluffy cardi thing was just appalling and I don't think KM is ever going to be a style-leader - clearly not her bag.

I will add that Samantha Cameron appeared to be sporting a pashmina Shock albeit in a contrasting, "block" colour.

SilkStalkings · 30/04/2011 19:44

Oh God rather HRHK than SamCam! She has no sex appeal whatsoever, her clothes look like smocks or nun's habits.

Collision · 30/04/2011 19:48

valentino thinks shawlie things are still in

This might be out of your price bracket tho!!

Helltotheno · 30/04/2011 21:01

That Valentino would be the job alright, if a bit on the pricey side....
Have sort of decided on white now cos wedges are white/silver so hopefully can pick something up. Look the bottom line is we can't really survive without shawls/boleros/shrugs/pashminas can we?!

SilkStalkings did you not think SamCam looked good in a kind of down to earth way? At least she cracked a smile, in contrast with Posh who imo needs a slap upside the head. Who the f$%k does she think she is, honestly?!

prettybird · 30/04/2011 21:10

Fashionistas are never not necessarily practical.

If you feel comfortable in a shrug, cropped cardi or even a pashmina then you should wear one. Who cares what the fashionistas think - if you feel good, you'll look good.

I will admit to owning two pashminas - one dressy and one practical. They don't get used that often but boy are they useful The dressy one is can fold small enough to get into even a small bag for emergency warmth whne going out for a meal/dressed up - and the larger, practical one is great for going on holiday, where it serves a mulititude of roles Grin

chandellina · 30/04/2011 21:14

shrugs, cardis and pashminas will always be classic and suitable, if not the height of fashion. there are times when just nothing else will do.

SilkStalkings · 04/05/2011 21:50

Plus a shrug shows off your figure so well and makes everyone look at your boobs!
