slicked-back hair

I seek your advice oh wise S&B ones!

DS1 has chin-length straight hair, quite thick [pride emoticon]. He wants to slick it back in the manner of Draco Malfoy in the 1st Harry Potter film [bushock]. We have tried Alberto VO5 gel wax but it doesn't hold his hair in that style beyond about 4 minutes.

I don't want to keep buying things on the off-chance. What works? What would anyone recommend for super slicked-back hold? Not too expensive or femininely-scented please, mind! Any experience of Brylcreem or is that just toooo retro?

Wet his hair first then use a hardcore vinyl hair gel. It's all the same really just have a look at boots for the strongest sounding stuff. But wet it first.

Dampen it, put gel or hairspray on, then blast it with hairdryer. Will not shift!
