tall ladies - where do you buy casual daytime dresses from

I love tea dresses, floral printed dresses etc but I struggle to find anything long enough that I would feel comfortable wearing bare legged. I have been fine till now as with thick opaques/ leggings I feel happier going a bit shorter but find dresses from places like warehouse, oasis etc are just a shade too short.

Does anyone else have this problem it isn't like I am a giant, I am only 5'10 but yesterday I was struggling to know what to wear as without seriously tanned legs I feel most of my dresses are too short, would want some just above the knee.

Long Tall Sally?

whoneedssleepanyway · 24/04/2011 16:40

Thanks AllTheGood - those are exactly the sorts of dresses I like, I had been looking at that warehouse fan print one and wondering about it...I know the fatface one is too short as I have seen it in the shop and looked at that.

Love the Oasis one but probably a bit dressy for what I am looking for but really want it now. And like the other warehouse one too.

What do you think about these two...

off the shoulder - do you think i could wear it with the off the shoulder bits pulled up IYKWIM

is the pattern a bit much

Celia - not sure about long tall sally always wondered if it was a bit frumpy...

I do think the Oasis dress can be dressed up with heels or down with flats.

The first dress is very nice but not really every day, certainly not for the school run and tescos... Grin. It's a little too hippy/gipsy-ish... I am not sure how the shoulders would work if you pull them up...The second one looks really really short on the model!

I really like this one from the 'Tall' range of Top Shop. It would look lovely with flats, wedges and also with tan calf cowboy/biker boots. What do you think? www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33057&storeId=12556&productId=2275165&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=208535&parent_categoryId=203984&pageSize=20&refinements=category~[209813|208535]&noOfRefinements=1

think you are right AllTheGood, love that Topshop one but red doesn't really suit me, but have seen a lovely skirt on their so thanks!

do still love that Warehouse gypsy style dress, may get it for holiday as quite reasonable.

Hobbs!!

Went there on Saturday on recommendation from a friend and it was a revelation! Of course there are a few frumpy things but I tried on fourteen dresses, nearly all of them gorgeous, and ALL of them properly KNEE LENGTH!! (I'm 5'7" so you should be okay)

Give it a try, really recommend it!

verysomething · 25/04/2011 09:11

I bought this day dress which I love and makes me feel grown up but hellishly chic Grin

Grumpla · 25/04/2011 09:18

Long Tall Sally is really variable, there is still a lot of frumpy crap but usually one or two really nice things every season. For some reason I find the clothes always look really different from the catalogue when you see them in real life as well.

New Look tall is quite useful although mainly 'basics'.

As you are not freakishly tall like me, have you tried Zara? They are definitely built on slightly taller lines than usual (still very slightly ankleflappy for me at just under 6' but you might get away with it!)

daimbardiva · 25/04/2011 09:51

I'm 5'11'' and find Zara good too, and the Topshop tall range. Have a couple from Boden too, and Monsoon.

dexter73 · 25/04/2011 09:53

What's the name of the dress you bought verysomething?

BigSooz · 25/04/2011 10:54

Be wary of Warehouse and Oasis. Their dresses come up very short on me (5'11 and a half Grin).

Topshop sometimes good. Occasionally New Look and Dotty P's.

hopscotchmum · 25/04/2011 11:09

Next have a "tall" range as well...I really like it after discovering its "tal" maternity jeans. I'm 5ft10 as well and share the frustration! love Dorothy perkins dresses but find them vv short. Monsoon often also good.

verysomething · 26/04/2011 23:11

Sorry dexter to be a bit late replying, but it was the Albion dress on that page from Hobbs. It falls about 2 inches below the knee. Thought my link above was to the dress, not the whole damn page of them... Although while you're there, scroll down to the NW3 button front dress - I bought it too [cgrin]

whoneedssleepanyway · 27/04/2011 08:05

Thanks very. I am now contemplating the valley dress and the Sussex dress....quite grown up but could do for work and play [cgrin]
