sandals for fat (ish) ankles

Help, I am quite slim, but do not have slim ankles. I don't wear heels and I can't bear toe posts. HELP!
Also, I'm quite awkward and I don't like girlie sparkly things. I have a really nice pair of gladiator type sandals from Office or somewhere a couple of years ago, but they are not flattering and I need to replace them. The only things I can find that I like are these ugg ones and these clarks ones and these natural shoe store ones. Am I going to look like a hobbit in all three?
Ankle straps or not ankle straps?
Would heels really make a difference?
My feet are not pretty btw
tia

I suppose it depends on how tall you are, and also what your feet are like. If you are tall and slim, with slim feet, perhaps. I hear what you say about heels: have you tried a non-toepost wedge? Anything by Fly or Rocket Dog that may suit?

MistyValley · 24/04/2011 10:46

Definitely not ankle straps, with cankles you want to create a long unbroken sweep from your shins down to your toes. Gladiators are Very Bad Indeed unless you have perfect coltish slender calves and ankles (I don't think they actually suit many people).

Heels do help visually, if you find them impractical and uncomfortable (and I don't blame you) then low wedges are probably as far as you'd want to go.

How about something like this if you want to avoid heels altogether:

Geox

This is a good shape to aim for:

Gabor

I am a fellow sufferer of the mild cankle. Those Geox ones which MistyValley linked to would actually make my ankles look worse - that style of shoe is definitely lengthening in a heel but not in a flat.

These from Top Shop are brilliant. So good that I bought two pairs so that I can keep one pair decent for going out in :)

I also love these and will be ordering if my soon-to-arrive H&M Hasbeens look awful :)

tulpe · 24/04/2011 16:47

BTW, those first Top Shop ones I linked to do not sit tight around the ankle - the top of the T-bar sits slightly lower on the foot so that it doesn't emphasise any canklage.

Not sandals as such but I have been pleasantly surprised that my cankles look okay in the Dance Lace Converse www.office.co.uk/womens/converse/dance_lace/20/10311/27270/1/1 here
Unfortunately they only come in black or white though

MistyValley · 24/04/2011 22:47

ooh I like the Converses - the low cut and shape of the laces is great. Yes, shame there aren't more colours!

libertychick · 24/04/2011 22:54

Great Top Shop sandal Tulpe! I'm ordering them now...

shufflebum · 25/04/2011 11:41

Misty they've hardly been off my feet since I got them, the white goes with everything and I bunged them in the washing machine the other day and they came up like new. I was wondering if I could risk dyeing them...

MistyValley · 25/04/2011 14:48

Grr - I want some now Grin Washable is good. How do the laces work, are they integral elastic type ones, or do they come out? If they are removable I guess you could always have different coloured laces by way of variety.

MinkyBorage · 27/04/2011 22:23

Ooh tulpe,I love those topshop ones, especially the red ones, now I'm sorely tempted. I've ordered the clarks ones and they're not too bad, they'll look better with trousers than they do with a skirt, but I'm relatively happy with them. I also ordered the UGG ones and they're lovely but I must have been having delusions of grandeur when I ordered them because they are £ridiculous!!!.
Thank you for help.
shufflebottom, I concur re converse. I don't have the dance ones, but I have some others which have a similar effect.
Thanks all.
