NYDJ - which bodytype do they fit?

I am a classic hourglass and usually buy jeans from American urban outfitters/John Rocha/Etam/Levi Curvy, but I'm vaguely interested in NYDJ.

I tummy is very flat in comparison to expanse of arse, but I have quite a large "ken doll" due to botched abdominal surgery. Would they pull this in? Or, are they apple-shaped only friendly?

I'm hour-glass shaped, but large, and I find NYDJ fit me perfectly and flatten my tummy and enhance my bottom as advertised. Worth every penny, I think.

I know some / lots on MN think NYDJ are frumpy but they don't look like 'mom trousers' on me and I'd recommend them. However, if you're not a large size, there are probably other designer type jeans which would do the trick for you at a similar price and with a cooler image!

hi poly, I'm big too and beyond an age where I give a flying fuck whether people think I'm "uncool" or not! Wink I think I'm just going to have to man up and go and find a pair to try on - trouble is, all the styles I like seem to sell out quickly wheras the white pencil pedal-pushers are still in my size! Hmm

worth every penny in my opinion as they fit on the waist. Don't look frumpy on me and definitely do what they say they do.

mollymole · 22/04/2011 10:02

what about GAP 'curvy'

AlpinePony · 22/04/2011 10:16

No GAP near me for hundreds of miles. The reason I'm interested in the NYDJ is because of the aforementioned "ken doll" - I need something to yank that in because the pre-op transexual is not a good look. :(

What's a ken doll?

pointydog · 22/04/2011 10:20

Although I think I'm working it out as I type.

What's the sizing like compared to other retailers?

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 22/04/2011 23:45

They suggest you order a size down from your usual one and I've found this works. Also, the sizing is US so it's two down fron the UK one Sso, say, if you were a 22 (I'm not assuming you are btw) you'd size down to a 20 - which would be a US 16.

I get most of mine by post from Charles Vermont simply because the women there are so helpful and knowledgeable about the different styles and which come up smaller or larger than others etc. Also the price is good.

But obviously actually trying them on before buying is the ideal if you can find a local stockist. John Lewis do some styles up to a UK 20.

Can't guarantee their action on the part you mention but they certainly deliver as far as tummy and bottom are concerned.

LadyWellian · 23/04/2011 00:45

My mum is what you'd call an hourglass as in she has boobs and tum/bum but quite a neat waist. (I'm nothing like her and basically go straight down from the ribs.)

She has some NYDJ that look really great on her, though she is a UK 12/14 on the bottom so I can't comment on how they might look on a larger frame.

As to whether they look 'mumsy' - well, they are called 'Not Your Daughter's Jeans', and I think that's mainly about fitting on, rather than below, the waist. But as long as you aren't going to tuck things in to them, that doesn't necessarily translate to 'mumsy'.

polyhymnia · 23/04/2011 10:54

No, I agree - really don't think I look mumsy in mine because of what I wear them with, how I style them etc.

I just feel comfortable (but not elasticated waist sort of comfortable!) and pleased my tummy and bum are looking as good as they can.

I will investigate ......................

Bunbaker · 23/04/2011 17:37

So. What is a Ken doll then?

doglover · 23/04/2011 19:31

I've just bid (and won) a pair of NYDJ on ebay! They were on £6.49 so really chuffed! The seller's photos showed that there were a couple of small marks on the legs but I don't care for that price!! I'll see how I get on with them before splashing out on a brand new pair.

doglover · 23/04/2011 20:36

I'm still so excited! Will report back on their arrival!!

AlpinePony · 24/04/2011 06:21

Woooh! Grin I was going to go and try some on yesterday but was hit by an acute attack of laziness. Added to which there is the aforementioned problem of locally it only seems to be the cuts suitable for women who have fabulous legs but need, or have already had, facelifts! Wink Oh I know, if you've got it flaunt it.

But, I did find an online site which had the cuts I like, the problem now is the sizing which is why I need to get off my GFA and go and try some on - no matter if they are the white capri style!
