Going to an awards black tie thing in a couple of weeks time and I wantneed a new dress. I can't really find anything I like though Sad. The nicest thing I've found is this I particularly like the colour.

I'm 5ft5, strawberry blonde, size 10/12 and I don't want black because it makes me look old tired.

Budget is £200 and I don't mind hiring, buying or vintage.

If your budget can stretch, those Butter dresses are great. They are so versatile, super comfy, and travel well!

TheOriginalFAB · 20/04/2011 20:15

I have a deep red size 10 Monsoon dress going begging as I am fat.

foundwanting · 20/04/2011 20:38

How rigid is you budget, Miss?

Because this would be fabulous on you - shape and colour.

Love the colour you linked to, but you must be able to find better dress. That asymetric hemline even makes the models calves look chunky.

MissBeehivingChoclitWabbits · 20/04/2011 21:09

Found by found! It's rigid - lovely dress and colour find me something similiar for £100 less Grin

FAB - thank you - I love red but it doesn't love me.

Unless you are built like Keira Knightley that dress you have linked to will make you look 2 sizes bigger than you are!

How old are you? I think that is one of the most important things as you can get away with some things at 25 that you can't at 35/40!

Don't think that length is particularly flattering either - maybe if you are super toned everywhere else and have no boobs, otherwise would steer clear.

foundwanting · 20/04/2011 21:18

Lovely colour and tummy disguising ruching.

Too old-fashioned?

Short? But the stoopid model won't take the jacket off, so who knows what the top is like. Hmm

What shoes are you hoping to wear? It helps to have a starting point. Grin

Shock @ Madame - so you don't like it then Wink

I'm 39 and three quarters

How dressy is your do? Could you not bling up your new maxi that half of MN have bought?

MadameCastafiore · 20/04/2011 21:24

Just being honest!!

Here What do you think of this - tell me if you think it is vile - if you have toned arms and shoulders will look fab and very good colour if you have a tan.

Much more a flattering length for someone your height than mid calf!

MissBeehivingChoclitWabbits · 20/04/2011 21:31

Found - you are shoe obsessed woman.

Maxi lovely but not dressy enough.

First one is a nice shape and colour but not keen on the bling. Second one is good but that neckline is not helpful for my lack of boobage.

And the third, not that I'm not grateful but GET A GRIP WOMAN Grin

I'm crap at this game. Grin

Has it got to be long then? I like Madame's pick, but the colour might be a bit wishy-washy for you.

Don't do the funny three-quarter length thing, please. I'm older than you and even I'm not ready for that yet.

MissBeehivingChoclitWabbits · 20/04/2011 21:47

I like Madame's one but colour is wrong for me.

I promise I won't do the three quarter thing if it's so bad.

I like this style but it's black.

Good but sold out

Named in the title!

Sleeves too long?

full skirted

Great bargain

Or am I way off?

foundwanting · 20/04/2011 21:53

I like this.

Am I getting closer?

foundwanting · 20/04/2011 21:56

Or this. Comes in kingfisher blue, too.

MissBeehivingChoclitWabbits · 20/04/2011 21:57

Found - lovely. Just choose things you like and I'll probably like them too.

Tethers - 'fraid not - please keep going.

That second one is lovely, that might be IT Smile

I keep going back to the second one. DH just peered over my shoulder and said, "Lovely dress. Very classy."

Now, which colour....

MadameCastafiore · 22/04/2011 21:14

Looks like a bridesmaid dress - choose something a bit more edgy woman you are not in your dottage yet!
