leggings and trousers

Not at the same time though. Hopefully style gurus can give me some answers.
Firstly, what is the best length of legging to wear with tunic-y type dresses? Is is ankle or cropped? I think full length is too long but how much ankle should one show?

secondly I need to get some trousers that will be be for spring going into summer, mainly for work use but also for home. Was thinking audrey hepburn-esque cropped ones but not really sure whats in fashion, what colours and where to get them from?

If it helps, I'm 36, 5'4, size 10-12 and reasonably curvy of boob and hip area.

Would prob wear with ballerinas, wedges or flip flops but haven't bought them yet so can accessoize to match!

Not too expensive either, as don't have too much spare cash and need things to work with lots of stuff in my wardrobe.

I love a cropped trouser but havent bought any this year yet. Thought these looked nice tho from Boden Also like these

I have bought rolled up chino type trousers for this summer, they are very "in" this year adn Im findng they go with every top I own (ok, almost...) Similar to these

hadn't really considered chinos but they do look comfy. The capri pants are great too. I reckon a grey or khaki would be good?

I love grey and khaki, both so easy to wear. Think Khaki in particular looks amazing with a bit of a tan in the summer...

Chinos look amazing with gladiators btw, much dressier than you'd think : )

Hi ninja! I got some chinos, despite some very negative comments on them on MN! Got mine from Fatface because they don't have a pleated front which suits me much better. Mine are casual not dressy, but there's so many in the shops I'm sure you could find some suitable for work. Khaki is a good colour, can wear with browns/neutrals, with white, but also with brighter corals and pinks and a tan!
As for leggings, wear what length suits you, although full length in the summer might look strange? For my legs the cropped mid calf length looks awful, but below the knee is fine.

Long leggings are the most flattering to all shapes and sizes, I think, but I do also think that if you have good legs (calves not too chunky) the 3/4 length leggings look good, too, and are more summery (I know this is a controversial opinion on MN, though!) Grin

There are loads of 3/4 length trousers about at the moment. I would advise you to buy from shops not online, though, as lots of them have that slight harem feel about them (high waist, baggy around the tum) which is not flattering if you aren't a skinny 19 yr old, imo.

I went shopping yesterday and got some nice slate grey, cropped, straight-leg trousers from Monsoon for £50, some slim fit capri pants in navy and beige/chino style from New Look for £25 (surprisingly well tailored for New Look) and some black 'cigarette pants' (the slight smarter, skinny capris) from H&M for £20. Zara also had some nice ones.

Think everything and anything is a controversial opinion on MN whatevs :o

you could be right ellangirl, you can't please all of the people all of the time!

Think I will save some of my next pay to go shopping. I feel some capri pants and some form of summer shoe calling me....
