I'm confused about my different Birkies....

I have a white pair that I've had for 2/3 years, as comfy as slippers, love them.

So last year I bought a pair of gold ones, and a pair of black ones, exactly the same size, style etc (38 Madrids)

Both the gold ones and the black ones are soooo uncomfortable and feel completely different from the white ones.

How can this be? I don't want to spend any more money on any more in case they are uncomfortable again, but I just want them to be like my comfy white ones?? Waaaa.

I think they take a bit of wearing in. do you remember your white birkies being uncomfortable to start with?

berri · 19/04/2011 14:14

No not really, and last year I wore the black ones and gold ones until I literally couldn't anymore, so I don't think it's to do with the wearing in...

...that's why I don't understand!!!

I wonder if they changed the footbed thingy?

I used to have a pair back in 19 hundred and frozen stiff and they were EVIL to wear, the bump in the arch really killed my feet.

I just got some more this spring and they are wonderful. They still take a bit of encouraging to stay on but they don't hurt.

Maybe my feet have changed, maybe the design has...I don't know. Could it be that? Do you have the white ones to compare them with?

IngridBergman · 19/04/2011 14:39

Just noticed my new ones don't have a bump at all. That would explain it!

Hmm they look identical. It's almost like the leather strap is longer on the more uncomfortable ones - could this be possible? Maybe this is why it rubs my foot as it's more difficult to keep them on?

But if I make them tighter I can hardly get my feet in! Maybe they'd stretch....

Where do they hurt - is it the strap rubbing?

Is it Birko-flor or leather? Maybe that has a bearing, my old ones were veggie 'leather' which was some kind of rubbish plasticky stuff that broke after 6 months so I sent them back. They really rubbed. These ones are very soft, almost like a suedey fabricky stuff, which hasn't rubbed at all.

The strap kind of rubs on my 4th toe, as it feels like I've got to try to keep them on more than the White ones.

And with the black ones, the buckle seems to press on my toes when I bend my foot to walk, they even left a bruise last autumn I seem to remember.

They are all just normal leather afaik.

I despair!

Oh dear. Maybe try a different style next time? I can't imagine why this has happened but I feel your pain.

They shouldn't hurt that much. I've onl;y really been wearing mine today, bought them ages ago in sale but didn't wear till now, and they are like I hardly notice them at all...I might go to bed in them by mistake! Need tighteing a bit though as they need a bit of keeping on when we walk a long way.

I hope you find the answer and some comfy shoes x
