Harem pants on the thicker-thighed....

I am late 30s and am prepared to contemplate harem pants. Not the real poo-catcher type butthe kind which are baggy on the legs. From a fashion point of view I reckon I could carry them off IF they are flattering.

But will they be?

I am tall, size 14 and have decent legs for winter - great in black tights - but terrible for summer - blue/white with cornbeef and bruisey bits as extra. Dry skin and job as swimming teacher means I'm NOT going for the spray tan - orange and blue splodges anyone?

I need some trousers that cover my lower legs but flatter my slightly chunky thighs. I'm hoping something like the long ones here might work.

Any input?

Well, my friend who is also a tall size 14 wore something similar with heels the other week, and looked great. I say give it a go...

I saw a very slim girl wearing these the other day and while they looked nice from the front, from the back, her bum was munching them really badly as she either had a thong on/commando! Made me and dh snigger!

foundwanting · 18/04/2011 17:10

I like them and have seen various shapes and sizes wearing them well.

Go for it.

specialmagiclady · 18/04/2011 18:52

I have went for it and the verdict is bad! I reckon that if I could find them in black I could just about get away with it but I have bought a pair of shiny cotton ones that make my bum look like a big flat moon. The hunt goes on...

These are an updated more on trend version and are incredibly flattering, my very pear shaped best friend has some in leopard print and they look amazing!

bristolcities · 18/04/2011 22:17

But these might be better if you want to stick with jersey.

i am old

i am far too old

i am far far far too old

why, prey, why, would anyone want to wear something that looks like badly fitting tracksuit bottoms....they just remind me of those tracky bottoms with elasticated ankles....you know, those fart catchers....

i am clearly far far far to old and fuddy duddy for style and beauty.

i manage leggings. just. with boots on and a long top.

brimfull · 18/04/2011 22:54

I think thesee churidarsmay be more flattering but the do require an tunic over them for me at least

ijordan121 · 19/04/2011 08:36

Get some! I have a similar figure type and bought some at River Island - they are so flattering (2 people have asked where they are from!) and comfy I have gone back and bought a second pair. They look ok with flip flops and do solve the dry/white etc leg issue.

winefairy · 19/04/2011 09:34

I really like the look of the Hush ones though, OP. Was it those that you bought? Noticed they are now available again for pre-order. I'm tempted.

ruffletheanimal · 19/04/2011 09:39

i love them and am now green eyed at all the links and want them ALL. gah.

daimbardiva · 19/04/2011 17:04

News flash - I have just bought a pair from the Dorothy Perkins sale for 12 quid in black and they are great. Even though I am 17 weeks pregnant - I've sized up and I reckon they shoudl do me till about 6 months. V comfy, stylish and flattering - a revelation, from someone who lives in jeans and leggings!

foundwanting · 19/04/2011 17:45

Saw some in New Look today. Various colours and lengths. DS put me off by calling them 'nappy pants'. Hmm

Then we saw two or three women wearing them and looking really good. May go back next week.

ENormaSnob · 19/04/2011 18:36

I am 5'7 and size 14.

I love mine and find them really easy to wear.

Although dh and the kids sing 'can't touch this' when I have them on.
