BODEN - are the sizes "skimpey"?

my ds is 6 so buying him 6-7 years but Ive heard Boden are skimpey?

Not skimpy, but they aren't as generous as Next for example.

DS (3.5) is slightly taller and slightly slimmer than peers for his age, and the trousers fit well.

I do find though that one set of 3-4 trousers fit him now, but another pair recently bought won't fit him until the next growth spurt. Same with tops. Some of them fit at the start of the age range, some will outlast it.

As pp says, sizing can be a little inconsistent. On the whole though, no, I would not say Boden have particularly skimpy sizing. I've bought for slimmer and taller than average DS and shorter and heavier than average DD and not had any problems either way but it depends on the styles you choose. If you read the reviews for the items you're interested in it will usually give you an idea if one particular thing is coming up quite small or large.
