I really quite like the look of these from Hush as they appear to not leave the wearer looking like she has a full nappy.

Are they nice or am I having a 40th year-induced style crisis?

Wrong. Just so wrong. They look nice on models. I am yet to see a single women over the age of 21 carry them off. And I am no ageist fashion brigade harpy. I think people should generally wear what they want regardless of age and, to some extent, shape. But these pants are just hideously unflattering to 99% of the population.

WalterFlipschicks · 12/04/2011 14:29

they are lovely in the picture, in RL, they will look hideous, sorry!

noddyholder · 12/04/2011 14:34

I wear them a lot and always get compliments. My advice is no jersey and a simple slim harem shape not MC hammer style. More like Indian trousers that go under saris. So comfy and stylish and good with heels or flats. No good on a huge arse/thigh combo as they do need to drape to look good. Have a lovely dark green raw silk pair form zara which I have had years and I love.Avoid primark jersey and you'll be fine.

aquavit · 12/04/2011 14:39

I like the look of those too, but noddy's right that jersey is v difficult to pull off in a harem trouser. And speaking from experience they do NOT look good on a big arse.

The model looks as though she has got them really hoiked up, she is sporting a bit of a wedgie, no? - that might explain why they don't look so nappyish - but either way not really a good look.

Bobbi and Walter - that's what I thought most people would say! We spend a fair amount of time in France and I am always amazed how many French women wear them and look fab but yes, they are usually slim and modelesque.

I am size 8 and they just look so comfy and the Hush version do look great with a vest.

I can't wear shorts - I look ridiculous unless they are mid-thigh length which are fine for beach/resort wear but not in my local community.

Noddy - what do you think of the Hush offering? Where do they sit in your criteria for decent harem pants?

I love a cropped harem style trew as I have slim calfs and they cut me at just the right point. I don't do drop crotch ones however. But I find them v flattering. Mine ARE jersey but the copious folds of fabric seem to hide my big arse

WalterFlipschicks · 12/04/2011 14:41

tulpe, at a size 8 I would say you definitely can get away with them, in this case size matters! Grin

cybbo · 12/04/2011 14:42

tulpe mine are JUSt like that. I have in grey from h and M and black from...cant remember

aquavit · 12/04/2011 14:43

it's so true about all those French women looking amazing in them

I think that a flat stomach is quite important, more so than overall size

noddyholder · 12/04/2011 14:44

I like those a lot if I was taller I would wear them but am 5'5 and knee length no good on me. I think they are flattering too.

NorbertDentressangle · 12/04/2011 14:47

Don't do it.

I followed a woman along the street the other day -she was tall, slim (Sz 8?)and wearing harem pants.

From the back it looked like there was a pair of testicles and a cock something heavy hanging down inside the crotch. Not a good look

aquavit · 12/04/2011 14:48

have just remembered that they are doing free postage/returns atm so can try these for free - am feeling inspired by cyb saying that they disguise a big shapely arse ...

cybbo · 12/04/2011 14:52

Aquavit, buy a darkish colour, I like 'em

aquavit · 12/04/2011 14:55

oh you are such an enabler

I'm not supposed to be buying clothes, am pg (wonder if I can get away with these + bump? would be the opposite of that chic French flat-stomached look)

cybbo · 12/04/2011 15:02

yes if you get a pair with a soft roll over top they would be fab for preggers

aquavit · 12/04/2011 15:05

god I'm so suggestible

cybbo · 12/04/2011 15:07

oh me too

daimbardiva · 12/04/2011 15:52

I would've said no, until my best friend wore some black ones from Dorothy Perkins on Saturday. She is 35 and a gorgeous size 14-16 and they were very flattering and stylish indeed with a nice pair of heels

tulpe · 12/04/2011 16:54

Right, am going to order but shall be unable to report back until end of May as they are out of stock until then!

BobbiDazzler · 12/04/2011 17:04

tiny hips and a flat stomach and maybe they will look OK. No arse even worse than big arse imo. These are not forgiving tews.

CPRTowers · 13/04/2011 10:52

I've got the hush ones and am relatively confident they aren't too unflattering. Pretty loose tops covers up rotund tum and seem to work with the shape, too chicken for a vest yet though I know it would look better.

fishie · 13/04/2011 10:57

oh fgs now i've had to buy some, like cyb I do suit a nice cropped trouser.

but what top do i wear? why don't I have any tops? i seem to have nothing but dresses and tunics. have long arms and legs and stumpy body.
