i passed this top in Debenhams on saturday and i cant quite decide if i like it, or if it would make me look a bit of a tart like i am trying too hard to be young again (im 38). i have always avoided jN at all costs.

so what do you think? would i have to be super tall and skinny to get away with it?

I like it. But then I'm 43 so what do I know.

Aworryingtrend · 12/04/2011 09:54

I don't think you would have to be particularly tall or skinny, I think its 'ok' IYSWIM- not beautiful nor hideous either. presume you woukd wear with bootcut jeans? If buying online I would size way up- Jane Norman sizes are ridiculously small.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 12/04/2011 10:40

There is nothing remotely tarty about that top - would swamp me as I can't wear anything voluminous, but if it suits your shape, go for it!

I like it.

RunforFun · 12/04/2011 10:45

It looks nice.

I'm 42 and have recently bought a couple of JN things for the first time and totally agree they are for tiny people.

The belt will be the naffest plastic looking thing imagineable and you should find another belt to use straight away.

This was the case with a tight knitted tank top tunic thing I bought in the sale from there for £6

polyhymnia · 12/04/2011 10:47

Yes, not 'unmissable' IMO, but not particularly 'young' or tarty either. Does depend on whether you can 'do' voluminous - I'm big and can't because it would look tent-like, and I'd also find the sleeves over-fussy. But it totally depends on your shape, I think.
