Help, please - yet another maxi thread: any good ones with sleeves??

Really, really want to try a maxi. But don't want to expose tops of arms. I'm a Size 22 and 5' 9'' so height no problem. Want reasonable quality. Pattern OK, as long as not red or pink dominated.

My choice seems to be to get one I like which is sleeveless (eg the current Boden jersey one) and find a cover-up, which doesn't seem that easy - or find a nice one with sleeves. So far almost all the ones with sleeves I've seen on net seem frumpy.

Suggestions, please!

Oh, and one further thought - I supoose a sleeveless one with a short-sleeved tee under it is a no-no is it??

Many thanks for the suggestions so far - please keep them coming. Really liked that Asos black one, leverkusen. Also the Asos star print one looks of interest. I'm sure someone on here - bibibelle???- ordered that, but don't recall seeing what they thought of it.

Tethersegg - thanks for that link. Will have a good browse through it.

Budget not too much of a problem - in fact probably prefer upmarket, though of course many upmarket labels don't do plus sizes.

Don't mind whether sleeves long, 3/4 or short. Short coolest for summer and my arms are fine except at top.

Maxi dresses are very hard to get right. They have been on and off the fashion radar for years now and even when they first re appeared still they oly look good on very few people. I saw some horrors yesterday they are this years gypsy skirt and in Brighton yesterday at the marathon there were loads of middle aged women in them and they are hideous.

polyhymnia · 11/04/2011 12:48

Hear what you say. Can imagine some of the horrors you spotted! Of course, the ultimate example is the horrific blue M and S 'batwing' one Twiggy models.

That's why the plainest - like the black Asos one - suitably styled probably best bet. But, as i'm tall and hourglass, would like at least to try.

I always get vintage ones off ebay- the cut and detail is so much better.
