"dressy casual" ideas?

I am going to a work related event on Tuesday evening, the dress code is "dressy casual" - the most I can find out is that it is "more heels than uggs, and men can wear a suit if they prefer". I am slightly flumoxed and lacking in imagination at this point to go beyond smart blouse and jeans!

Any pointers or ideas welcome!

What about nice black trousers, a pretty tunic/loose blouse and a casual jacket and some heels? Oh and a pretty necklace and earrings.

I would avoid wearing jeans. What are your options?

Well, I have plenty of "smarter" options such as dresses I wear to work and heels, but don't want to be TOO formal. And I have plenty of really casual options but not much inbetween. At this point I am thinking navy trousers with nude heels and cream blouse. Thanks minieggfan -though the thing I am worst at is casual jackets!

What sort of event is it - give us a clue?

It is a "mystery" night out arranged by a company/client - it's an annual thing, we meet for drinks and then the evenings activity is revealed. Last time I went we learnt to play poker and had a tournament and had dinner - it was great fun. I think they would specify "trousers" if it was going to be karting or something semi physical! I don't really want to turn up looking like I am going to a formal meeting as it is meant to be a fun and fairly relaxed evening.

It was a Kylie concert. I wish I had worn jeans! Still it was great fun.

Bum! Jeans would have been perfect! Who would have guessed! Must have been a great night.

It was really good, I ended up going in my work suit but so did almost everyone else, and we were in a nice swanky box and not the mosh pit so style was OK!
