Summer wear for the blessed of calf and cankle?

I feel I must call upon the help of the Style and Beauty gurus of Mumsnet. Having lived all winter in leggings, tunics, and knee length boots, I have realised that I don't have anything in my 'summer' wardrobe that makes me look less than lumpy and frumpy, and all that.

I'm 5ft7in, size 12 (10 on top for some items) but have ermmm...sturdy legs, including horribly lumpy knees and the dreaded cankles. Obviously I can't do anything about them, but I need to find nice clothes. I like nice pretty dresses but haven't yet found a Maxi that makes me look less than 8 months pregnant, due to the non-flatness of my stomach. Bias cut stuff tends to look best, but knee length not so great due to canklage and calf length a complete no no. Wide leg linen trousers make me look like I spend my life in Per Una and am about 64.

Now I have a christening to attend on saturday, and need something lovely.

Please can you help me? (We're talking Next and New Look prices by the way, unfortunately) And anyone else of this shape have style ideas to share?

i've got cankles Sad .
have you tried a more structured wide leg trouser like this. french connection v.good for the bottom heavy IME
you need a tall, chunky heel with whatever you wear.

No no no, if you have cankle/thick legs you shouldn't wear any shoe that has a strap encircling the ankle.

i know received wisdom is to avoid ankle straps, but IME if it's a chunky shoe it works. and if paired with either cigarette or wide leg trousers then the cankle is covered anyway.

Like both those Charlotte but too £££ for me :(

Libra I have found ankle straps do 'enhance' the cankle - tend to go for mule type shoes - looking for some wedges today, they seem to be best.

Huge sympathies. A tan really helps and I would agree with the wedges.
Just below the knee seems to work best on mine, good luck.
