I'm 37 (38 this summer), can I shop in New Look?

I saw this skirt which I quite liked. However, will I get to the till and they give me a "you can't shop here, go to Ms&S" look?

There were some other things, mostly tops that I liked too.

What could I wear with it?

No you can't they have started checking your teeth on the way in

FattyAcid · 09/04/2011 08:46

white t

wedge espadrilles

nenevomito · 09/04/2011 08:46

I get the odd thing from New Look. I'd wear that skirt with a short sleeved white blouse and some flats, but thats just me.

nenevomito · 09/04/2011 08:46

I'm 36 BTW

saltyseadog · 09/04/2011 08:46

Course you can. I LIKE that skirt.

FattyAcid · 09/04/2011 08:47

green shoes
sunglasses
wooden necklace

Grin I'm 47 and occasionally whizz around - sometimes even buy something! The assistants seem to tolerate me, never felt like they were doing the Hmm face. Maybe they wait until my back is turned! Anyway, I just have the look that says 'I'm shopping for my DD.'
FattyAcid · 09/04/2011 08:48

"you can't shop here, go to Ms&S" look?

that look is also used in M&S there is no escaping it

Meggles76 · 09/04/2011 08:51

I am soon to be 35 and still buy stuff in TopShop. There is some stuff in there that is great for me (blazers, jeans, vests for layering, coats) and there is also stuff that I am 15 years too od for (crop tops, micro shorts, all things neon)
That skirt is fine

candleshoe · 09/04/2011 08:55

My mum is 64 and still shops at New Look old tart .

I am 38 and haven't shopped their since I was 18! It is all cheaply made, tarty rubbish - buy something of better quality!

candleshoe · 09/04/2011 08:56

P.S. That skirt looks like something from the 50s so it is probably fine.

Meglet · 09/04/2011 09:11

That skirt is perfect for a 30-something.

New Look has some good blouses this season.

kando · 09/04/2011 09:16

I hope so as I'm off there later this morning to buy myself some jeans!

kando · 09/04/2011 09:17

[I'm 38]

foundwanting · 09/04/2011 10:29

Will be going there this week with DD (10) and DM (69). I'm 43. We will probably all get something there and in H&M.

Never had 'the look' from the staff in either of those. River Island, on the other hand, don't employ people if they can't do 'the look'.

The skirt is lovely.

KurriKurri · 09/04/2011 10:56

I'm 51 and I bought a blouse/top in there yesterday - they didn't ask me for age ID. They've got a sale on in the one in the old mall FW Grin

KurriKurri · 09/04/2011 10:57

Oh and I really like that skirt too - very pretty and summery.

Changebagsandgladrags · 09/04/2011 11:19

Well it was full of old dears 'shopping for their daughters'! The girl managing the changing room was the most pleasant shop worker I have come across in a LONG time.

Went into Next after and Wallis, bleurrrgh dull.

I'm 47 and buy most of my stuff there.

I only started buying new clothes for myself recently, after a ridiculously long life of "hand me downs"....(so, I post in Stately homes :( Blaaagghhh ) And I am loving experimenting with different stuff that doesn't matter financially if I get it wrong.

Life's too short, wear what you want.
I think that skirt is gorgeous. :)

MikeRotch · 09/04/2011 17:42

i LOVE htat skirt

thaigreencurry · 09/04/2011 17:46

My mum is almost 74 and she gets all her clothes from New Look. When I was growing up and she was mid 40's it was all crimpoline (sp?) dresses, old lady camel coats and she even wore hats with feathers in Hmm. Once she turned 60 she started shopping in New Look and H&M.

foundwanting · 09/04/2011 17:52

Thanks KurriKurri. Grin Went in today with DD - avoided the sale section because it was mostly on the floor.

I agree - lovely staff. Pleasant and helpful in a way that not many 'high-end' High Street can manage.

CountBapula · 09/04/2011 19:56

Bugger - love that skirt' but they've only got size 6 left

Lucky I found four other nice things on there which I've just ordered Grin

I'm 48 and will buy the odd thing from New Look. Have to be careful though. Last year I went in and saw what I thought was a lovely "top" and was going to buy it but it seemed somehow familiar. Then I remembered I'd seen my son's girlfriend wearing it..............and it was a dress !! Grin
