where to shop when old and decrepit

Well I hope I'm not THAT old and decrepit but it does feel like something has shifted now I've gone 40 and I feel a bit odd still shopping in TopShop. Unfortunately my budget is still TopShop or possibly even New Look. I've not really paid much attention to how I look for the last 2 or 3 years but I've just decided that if I'm starting to look old (or definitely NOT in my 30s) then I'd better make the most of what I have while I still have it; on the other hand I don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb.

What shops/brands should I look at? I guess I could always look at the more pricey brands on ebay but there's the risk of something not fitting...

btw I'm just off to bed for beauty sleep(!) so if I don't reply straight off, doesn't mean I don't appreciate your comment. Just need to get sleep before baby girl wakes me...

I await with baited breath and great anticipation, but throw into the mix heightened height (5'11") and limited funds. I should also add my age.....43. . I will not be holding my breath for too long however....

......I carry a fair bit of extra baggage too. Not masses, but you know..

still not off to bed, bad me! just to say thanks for replies so far, just had a quick look at Mint Velvet (which I'd never heard of) online and it's so GOOD to see style guides with clothes that I could see myself wearing, and actually get ideas of looks to put together, rather than the very young style of the usual shops I look at!! Thank you Smile.

size 12, 5'11, 41, wear Next, Autograph, new look, john lewis, monsoon. tesco leggings & Laura Ashley. Plus random bits from coast, east & pierce fonda. But I work with trendy 20 somethings and miss maternity leave & flat shoes.....
