ball gown ideas

I'm going to a ball in a couple of months and have to wear a ball gown. I've put on a lot of weight in the last couple of years so I'm not sure what suits me anymore.

I'm a size 14, 36E and have the kind of tummy that prompts people to ask me when the baby's due :(

start with good undies, you will feel loads better :)
what colours suit you?

yellowkiwi · 07/04/2011 11:12

I'm not sure of colours either. I'm fair skinned and have quite long dark blonde hair. I used to look OK in black but now I seem to look drained.

how about a gorgeous midnight blue or indigo?

SaggyHairyArse · 07/04/2011 11:35

Have some highlights and a spray tan, that'll help with the drained look.

Get yourself some Spanx and go from there.

Debut at Debs have evening/ballgowns in midnight blue, turquioise and deep purple.

precisely the variety I was thinking about, Hairy Wink
see, she's got fab ideas like spray tan and higlights, wow what a glam bird you'll be Yellow :)

You have the same colouring as me, I think. Although I'm 'a friend of the hairdresser'. I change into a different person with my highlights done.

I tend to steer clear of pastels (they're supposed to flatter fair complexions but just make you look washed out, I think). Otherwise, wear most colours. I'm loving ultramarine blue and purple at the moment.

Second the Spanx and also think you should steer away from the mumsy brands and investigate 'alternative' ballgowns. Eg a beautiful silk slip (Ghost do your size) with a sequin waistcoat or feather chubby. Think Kate Moss, not Vanessa Feltz.

Thanks. I've got the Spanx and will definitely consider highlights and a tan.

take a look at...
halter neck, gorgeous

very flattering

purple and elegant

How about something like this? it is very pricey but the big bow and A-line would hide your tummy, and the V-shape neck should be flattering on bigger boobs. You could sell it on ebay afterwards if you don't normally attend fancy events
