Boy's school shorts for a girl?

Would this be a total mistake? DD is 8 and skinny and tomboyish.

I have looked around for girl's ones and they are few and far between, not to mention on the pricey side.

If I get her boy's ones; do you think she'll look a fool?

She won't care btw, but I do Smile

my girls wouldnt be seen dead in girls school shorts!

Have you tried the trutex website. At dds last school they had the option of tailored navy bermuda shorts, so girl's shorts do exist. Her shorts were,kt from trutex though.

Formal schhol outiffters like shepherd and woodward might help too

M&S do cullottes that look quite nice, DD is 9 and wears them. It means they can do handstands without worrrying about showing their knickers Grin.

All of dd's school trousers are hand-me-downs, some from her big brother, some from a girl who was in ds1's class. She has no preference which she wears (if anything, she inclines slightly towards ds's trousers because they have pockets) and IMO she looks lovely in either style.

Dd tends to prefer skirts or summer dress over shorts in summer, but I would have no hesitation sending her to school in ds's old shorts. One of dd's classmates always wears boy's shorts, and she is one of a family of girls.

My dd who is 6 is wearing boy's marks and sparks school shorts at the moment- I couldnt get any normal girl's shorts, they were all slightly longer and tighter or too trendy

virginiasmonalogue · 07/04/2011 13:51

Don't see why not. Might be cute!

BlooCowWonders · 07/04/2011 13:56

why ever not? The polo shirts are unisex anyway.

Almost all of DDs uniform are hand-me-downs. One of them are a pair of knee length shorts. They are not cullottes but they are quite loose fitting, I think they were pre-owned by a boy. She loves them. Wears them over tights when its cold and looks fine.

I think Asda do school cullottes for around £6-ish.

Sainsburys have cullottes as well about £4.

schroeder · 07/04/2011 18:47

Thanks everyone Grin.

Sainsburys had some 'city shorts' only in black, but I checked with school and it's is ok.

She's pleased and I can get on with my life Hmm
