Can you talk to me about chinos oh stylish ones?

How do I wear them? Also, can I get nice ones that do not have paperbag waists or pleated fronts- they make me look enormous! I wanted to try Uniqlo ones, but they don't deliver where I live...
Thank you!

I think stylish chinos is a contradiction in terms.

The only time I ever saw anyone looking remotely OK (and not with the hideous pleaty front baggy arse jodhpur thing happening ) was Princess Di in the minefields. Hers were Armani I think.

So there's your answer. The expensive ones. Grin

What size are you Ellan? What do you mean "how do I wear them"? As in, what with? I wear mine with plain vests and tshirts (this kind of thing), occasionally with a shirt (I have several skinny pairs) and with ballet flats now. Soon I'll swap the ballerinas for glads.

Zara have some nice ones though if you are ordering on line beware the sizes are a bit funny - they come up quite big. H&M have some nice ones too and New Look chinos are always good value. I have a pale pink New Look pair that are lovely and look a lot more expensive than they were (£15.99 I think)

monkeysmama · 07/04/2011 08:49

I think these look good.

AliSheedy · 07/04/2011 08:51

I think only the very slender can get away with chinos, and even then, it is dangerous territory. Very few of us can pull of that crisp white shirt-tanned-slender of ankle look which is about the only way chinos can work.

I've got some light came coloured slim fitting jeans that are more forgiving, if that helps?

AliSheedy · 07/04/2011 08:51

light camel coloured

monkeysmama · 07/04/2011 08:52

Maybe I have misunderstood what chinos are Blush.

ellangirl · 07/04/2011 09:24

Right, I am a size 12. Hoping that's not too enormously fat to get away with wearing them. I'm thinking of monkeysmama's idea of chinos I think- I like those ones from banana republic. Do you wear a belt monkeysmama? I hope that it's very possible to look stylish in chinos, but I don't want to look preppy with a white shirt look alisheedy and bucharest. Where are your camel jeans from ali?

Monkeysmama, those make even the model (who is presumably size 8 and 6ft tall) look short legged and chunky.

monkeysmama · 07/04/2011 09:33

I am a 12 too. I usually wear a belt. I disagree with the other posters and think it is very possible to look stylish in them. I have a 30% off voucher for Gap which might cover BR too. PM me your email address if you want one and I'll email it to you.

I have a few pairs and they can look stylish with flats or heels. It is to do with the shape and fir White shirt princess not my look either! But I was having a look through my clothes last night trying to see the wood for the trees and I decided ALMOST anything can look good and stylish if it fits and you are not (don't shoot me)Fat! I have realised that when I say things look crap on me it is generally when I have put on weight and can't get them to look right esp if I bought them when I was slimmer or with a view to getting slimmer. If I am not stuffing my face and am the right size all my clothes look ok its just the rest of the time Grin

noddyholder · 07/04/2011 09:34

fit not fir!

wideawakenurse · 07/04/2011 09:36

Of course you can wear chinos! Smile

Agree with MM about how to wear them I have these from new look which are great, but if you look on their site they have lots of un-pleated ones.

I wear a belt with mine, and wear t-shirts during the day mostly. As the Chinos are quite cheap I do go for a better quality t-shirt just to smarten up, I find Whistles t-shirts are excellent. Shirts and blouses look good too tucked in.

Footwear wise, I am in ballet flats too at the moment, but you can also wear them with sandels, wedges and even heels for smarter look in the evening.

I love the fact that I am wearing something leg covering that is not jeans.

I do also use Net a Porter and My wardrobe for styling tips. If you search current/elliot chinos on both sites, you'll see some great ideas for wearing them.

im 5ft and wear them and have had many compliments!! a size 10 althou a chuncky one

I wear a navy pair rolled up alittle with nude high heels, then with a camel, navy, coral or green top and a scarf, i have long dark brown hair if that makes a diffrence??!!

Thinking of getting the bright green pair from zara, they look fab!

Gently · 07/04/2011 11:41

I love these slim-fitting ones from ap, and wear them with anything I wear jeans with. I have them in navy too. Great with a loose, wide-necked top.

Gently · 07/04/2011 11:41

Gap not Ap!

Frizzbonce · 07/04/2011 11:48

ellangirl with trousers I would always suggest checking for stretch - they are always more comfortable, forgiving and flattering. I'm about to return a pair of summer trousers to The Outnet - they're non stretch cotton and look at bit mneh on.

Somebody yesterday recommended some brightly coloured summer trousers from Zara (sorry I can't remember the thread) but Zara would be a good place to start.

Have to say classic chinos do tend to make the most luscious derriere look blocky but again, I'd always go for a bit of lycra in the material - it will hug your bum and legs better.

MrsCampbellBlack · 07/04/2011 12:36

I have new look chinos from last summer in stone and khaki which I wore/will wear turned up with hasbeens, white vest and denim jacket or a short sleeved white shirt and tortoiseshell bangles.

No less flattering than jeans in my opinion and cool for spring/summer.
