What do we wear this summer (if we get one)

Following on from a variety of threads (linen trousers, where to shop etc etc). Those of us who are not especially rich, thin, tall or young. What do we do to look half stylish and not frighten young children?

I'm sticking with my linen trousers I'm afraid!

Oh and MAXI dresses......

maryjane71 · 05/04/2011 21:56

Maxi dresses, shift dresses - my favourite - and cropped trousers. Shorts if it's warm enough Smile

itsalarf · 05/04/2011 21:57

Shorts? Shorts! You must be missing the "not thin" part of the brief! Grin. Problem with skirts and so on in summer, is you can get a bit sweaty of thigh I find.

itsalarf! Shorts can reach all the way down to the knee Smile. I didn't mean hotpants - perish the thought Grin

itsalarf · 05/04/2011 23:03

Have just ROFL at the thought of myself parading in our town in hotpants. It is so funny it would almost be worth doing! Ok, knee length shorts I have never tried, and maybe I will this year. What else works? I officially hate summer clothes now. Bring back tights and boots!

Maxi Skirts with vests/scarfs, cotton chino's rolled up from H&M with striped breton T's, and cropped jeans with blazers/blue striped shirts.

and a new summer handbag..

itsalarf · 06/04/2011 07:52

Do you think chinos are ok for those who are wide and flat of arse?

OP posts:
0891 · 06/04/2011 07:56

no to chinos and flat arses.

NO to knee-length shorts unless you want to look like a scout leader.

maxi skirts are great as long as non-patchouli

georgie22 · 06/04/2011 08:08

Great post itsalarf! Too many threads on here focus on clothes that are well out of many people's price range - over £100 for a top etc. It would be nice to get some recommendations for mid range clothing. I shall be watching with interest - I agree re. chinos, maxi dresses etc.

Northumberlandlass · 06/04/2011 08:41

As usual....A Line knee length skirts, fitted t-shirt / vest & little cardie with my scholl's from last year. x

notyummy · 06/04/2011 09:02

Maxi skirts and dresses. Also slightly more formal a-line/prom dresses for work. I have some knee length shorts from last year that fit the bill.

MY knee length shorts are fitted to the leg and are NOT scout leaderish!

itsalarf · 06/04/2011 09:24

Am now picturing myself in full scout regalia. It has a certain je ne sais quoi.

Don't care what the threads say, I shall be wearing my linen trousers with pride Grin I have a navy pair and a white pair and shall be wearing with plain vests and Ts and stripe tops. Also my trusty birkenstocks.

I have also bought this dress here

notyummy · 06/04/2011 13:43

Thats nice dress Meggles.

Meggles76 · 06/04/2011 16:52

Thanks not yummy - I am not normally a floral person but it is very flattering. Just need some nice sunny days now!

maryjane71 · 06/04/2011 20:18

Oh heck! I wasn't recommending knee length shorts Blush Just wanted to point out shorts can be long. I'll get my coat.....Grin

Lovely dress Meggles

itsalarf · 06/04/2011 20:21

So, no to chinos, no to shorts. I'll be back to linen trews soon... Like that skirt though 0891.
