Where can I buy a good Breton stripe top?

I have a fab navy and White stripe top from h&m, cheap as chips but fab. Went to get some more but now they're all skinny and show up every bulge. Has anyone got the boden one? The reviews aren't too hot. Gap looks ok too. I have to get it online as I'm in France so can't go wandering the high street (wail)

I just got the boden one today and i'm disappointed. it looks a bit cheap and i have a feeling it won't wash well. the material is very thin which i usually like but i have to say, there is something about this top i'm not really impressed with.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2011 20:17

gap t-shirts have really gone down in quality imho. I find that the necks go saggy stupidly quickly. Have M&S got anything? Otherwise, maybe Jigsaw or Hobbs?

TaudrieTattoo · 02/04/2011 20:17

Jigsaw have some good ones in atm.

Bought three the other day in different colours.

googietheegg · 02/04/2011 20:28

I'll have a look at m&s although I worry everything there just looks a bit frumpy. Do jigsaw deliver? I appreciate a gentle google will answer that...

I was in Jack Wills today, they had loads, and their stuff is very good quality.

here

It is a bit pricey but dd has a load of stuff from there, it washes well and lasts for years.

spiderslegs · 02/04/2011 20:41

Toast usually has a good one every season or try Petit Bateau - both around £50, great cut, nice stipe and excellent quality. Have been wearing ones from both for a couple of years & wear really well.

MrsSeanBean · 02/04/2011 20:41

Another vote for Jigsaw.
Although I also got a reasonable offering from Sainsbury's (£6) the other day.

Meggles76 · 02/04/2011 20:49

I have this Whistles one which I love - This

I also have the Boden one in yellow... The material is thin but it works well with jeans and washes OK.

saltyseadog · 02/04/2011 20:49

Kew have some nice breton tops at the mo.

Meggles76 · 02/04/2011 20:51

Salty is right. I tried this on the other day - This
Nice quality fabric that should wash well and flattering neckline.

I love a good breton top Wink

i have the whistles one too, it's great. it is cut quite loose imo pistachio, and on the short side. but still lovely.

Meggles76 · 02/04/2011 21:41

yes Hoxton it is quite loose. I am only 5ft so the length is ok on me. I think you probably could get away with sizing down in this top. However, I like the looser style of it. Looks fab with skinny/slim jeans and navy ballet pumps

MissFoodie · 02/04/2011 21:42

zara have some nice ones and in different colour combos

saltyseadog · 02/04/2011 21:42

Meggles - I have that very top :)

Pagwatch · 02/04/2011 21:49

Day birger mickkleson have nice ones.
I think comptoir des cotonnier have some nice ones too. (if memory serves)

hoxtonchick · 02/04/2011 21:57

i am 5'8 so that might explain the difference!

Lizzywishes · 02/04/2011 21:59

The Gap one is so-so. Starting fo lose its shape after a few washes. I like the look of the Isabella Oliver 365 one.

higgle · 03/04/2011 11:53

There is no such thing as the perfect one! I now have 5 - Boden, Joules, M&S and 2 from Sainsburys + another from Howies which fits the role but not quite the description. None of them is quite right. They are all lovely tops which I will wear and look good in but this Breton Top thing causes an obsessive desire in me to get just one more, which will be "The One"

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 03/04/2011 16:07

I looked in Whistles today and the only one I saw was v v thin and 45 squid, which I thought was a lot for something so thin. Saw a lovely one in Warehouse but it was in the sale and they only had an 8 and a 16.

vinestein · 03/04/2011 16:22

I've just got 2 from french connection, they're fab- navy/white and white/navy 3/4 sleeves, size up one size if you don't want it clingy. Really happy with them and I'm v fussy

TooTiredToArgue · 03/04/2011 17:06

I tried Kew ones on today and shape was odd on me. Or it might be me that's an odd shape. Didn't purchase. I have 3 of the H&M ones, and I'm very happy with those.....

Meggles76 · 03/04/2011 18:41

Grin @ Hoxton - we would look like a matching little and large
Great taste Salty
Agree with other poster that the desire for the perfect breton can become an obsession!!

moonstorm · 03/04/2011 18:43

I've got the Gap one. Definitely losing shape and looking baggy around the middle (was fitted). Tempted to take it back...
