small, fat and have massive boobs - what type of casual tops should I wear?

ssd · 01/04/2011 21:17

all the styles I've seen are so long on me, I need and 18 mainly for the boobs and they hang off my shoulders and are usually too long

don't anyone suggest bravissimo, I think their clothes are designed to embarras sanyone with massive knockers, the tops make you look like dolly parton X 100, not the look I want, I know my boobs are way big but I don't want them taking everyones eye out within a ten mile radius

so any suggestions?

Jersey or modal fabric.

I'm an 18, 5ft tall, with 36js. I wear mostly Boden or monsoon jersey v necks. And I like a 3/4 arm as it shows a slim wrist.

Last seasons boden uptown top has been my favourite so far. Got 4 of them.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/04/2011 13:51

I also got 2 Brora modal scoop necks, they were really flattering and only £19 in the sale.

accessorizequeen · 02/04/2011 14:55

the brora scoop necks are not terribly long and agree with Laurie that they're lovely (I got two in sale two) they're doing s/sleeved ones now.
Where have you tried so far ssd? I'm not short, so trying to think of tops I try that too short for me! What about Debenhams, Mantaray?

brimfull · 02/04/2011 15:03

I wear a lot of semi fitted v-neck or boat neck tops

Scoop necks look shit on me as I have narrow shoulders.

Slim fitting tops that are long so you can ruche them up around the middle to disguise tummy are good.
I wear with long hip length cardi ( not baggy) and necklace or scarf-this is my day to day basic uniform.

these american apparel t-shirts are v flattering and long

brimfull · 02/04/2011 15:04

doh! just realised you don't want long
scrap my idea then
how tall are you?

mumtoted · 02/04/2011 20:02

Also watching with interest. Agree tops need to be not too long and definitely scoop neck. I've yet to find any flattering tops from Boden that fit though.

LOL ssd at Bravissimo = Dolly Parton x 100. I agree, I think Bravissimo has gone down the route of helping people emphasize boobs rather than camoflaging. Trouble is, when you have monster boobs, they are still there whether you emphasize them or not. I call that clothes-hanging-off-boobs effect the Les Dawson look.

I wear this sort of thing-
www.wallis.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33058&storeId=12557&productId=2349367&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=209236&parent_categoryId=209166&pageSize=20

the band round the bottom helps the top come in again and kind of hides the sins in the middle if that makes sense.
I have had some good tops from Next and Debenhams have some nice ones in at the moment.

MikeRotch · 03/04/2011 13:00

Get a minimized bra. Get clothes with collars. O think collars work well

ssd · 03/04/2011 14:17

trust me, you can't minimize these...........

I like the wallis tops, I go in there and usually see nothing

I can't get the monsoon links to work? or boden

ggirl I'm 5 foot

those tops would be dresses on me!

thanks anyway!

Becaroooo · 03/04/2011 14:36

(the ones I have were £9 btw and wash beautifully)

WhatsWrongWithYou · 04/04/2011 14:41

Never tried this lot myself but this looks like a possibility.

I agree re. shirts - I wear them open to the boob with a vest on view (I'm 30G), but I've got pretty brazen over the years. It looks far better to flatter them than try and camouflage with baggy clothes. I also wear cardis, esp wrap cardis, in the same way.

I know what you mean about Bravissimo, though - I quake at the prospect of wearing some of their 'here's me tits, me arse is coming' tops, although I do like the look of some so might try and see.

thomasbodley · 04/04/2011 14:48

I wear white scoop necked vests or jerseys underneath drapey Grecian-type tops or dresses that are a bit cut away. All Saints are expensive and their customer service is dreadful but their silk stuff is good and their jersey tops always have interesting cuts.

The vest covers up the heavy duty underpinnings but means I can still wear sexier tops.

Have also bought drapey tops from Jasper Conran at Debenhams and (for a few more £££) Vanessa Bruno.

I have 30FF boobs and most people claim never to have realised.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 04/04/2011 17:08

Agree with the drapey tops - I had one from Gap this winter which I've worn to death (wish I'd bought more colours), but they do seem to be appearing more and more, so hopefully will find some for spring/summer.

No one's mentioned Banana Republic; a few possibles here I think.

ssd · 04/04/2011 18:10

think the drapey look is best, anything tight shows all the lumps and bumps!
