80's theme on a very tight budget

Friend's birthday coming up and I have just realised she is having an 80's dress theme.

I wasn't planning on buying a new outfit so need to do this as cheaply as possible...

Any ideas gratefully received

How about the headband, leotard and legwarmers Fame / Flashdance / Perfect look? If you have alot of hair make sure it is backcombed to death.

Anything neon - legwarmers, netted skirt, leggings. Do you have a market? I got lots of stuff from a stall really cheaply. Or ebay usual have the whole cabodle.

Could do the slouchy top I suppose if it covered my bits but not leotard on it's own- I won't even wear a swimming costume at the pool/beach so leotard in a bar is not going to happen!

Yes Fimbo - the madonna look could be achieved quite cheaply - crucifixes and fingerless lace gloves etc.

I wore almost the same thing in neon green with leggings underneath and a pair of stilettos. I did go the whole hog and buy a big curly wig too, was a bit sweaty though!

Tesco is full of bright coloured batwing tops. I would go for:

black leggings
bright batwing (bum-covering) top with black wide belt worn low slung on hips
stilettos
cheapy plastic beads and bangles

backcomb your hair and spray heavily with firm hold hairspray

bright pink lippy and tons of bright blue eyeliner

Gosh, didn't we look great in the 80s??!!

Jacket with big shoulder pads, a straight skirt and a filo fax and go as a Yuppy (sp?)

or if you don't want to do a leotard, hw about leggings, slouch top and a full mini skirt

or you can usually get some kind of 80's evening dress like these

People always try and do the neon thing - there was a lot more to the 80s than that! Can you find any goth style clothing from charity shops?
Crimp hair, wear big shirt, DM's, red lippy?

Friend had an 80s party last year and 90% of the women were in identikit ebay neon leg warmers / tutu / gloves combo

A few others stood out but would be easy to copy:

Siouxsie and the banshees - DMs and hairspray

Robert Palmer girl if you're dark haired - lbd, talc on face and red lipstick

Salt and peppa leggings, baseball jacket and cap

Pepsi and Shirley white t-shirt with black logo?

Charity shop....go naff....gold jacket or shiny frock...hideous bag and white high shoes and set your hair in rollers for a massive 80s perm...think Pat Butcher!

If you're blonde and foxy then Wendy James from Transvision Vamp??

Does it have to be music? What about Molly Ringwald from Pretty in Pink

or

Kelly McGillis in Top Gun - pencil skirt, white t-shirt and leather jacket?

Casual/Jazz Funk look - Pleated skirt, pussy bow blouse, v neck jumper.

Preppy - 3/4 length chino type trousers in pastel shade, white or pastel pinstriped fitted shirt or batwing or slash neck top, loafers.

Hair, side parted, flicked or corkscrew curls. Make up, Electric blue mascara & eyeliner, frosted pink eyeshadow, very strong blusher striped from temple along cheekbone, frosted pink/purply lipstick - think Boots 17 Twilight Teaser or Rimmel Heather Shimmer. I'm pretty sure you can still get Twilight Teaser!

Or any of Madonna's various 80s styles.

Ra-Ra skirt, lacy footless tights, peeptoe bow shoes, slash neck T-shirt, crimped hair, maybe side ponytail, headband made of plaited fabric or coloured elastic. Big earrings. Cerise lipstick, similar coloured blusher (again with the striped look), eyeshadows in blues, corals, pinks, purples - two colors or more.

Blitz scene if you're feeling brave - think Boy George/Steve Strange/Marilyn (before you say they are all men, I don't think that's relevant in this case

Adam Ant, Early New Romantic Duran Duran, Limahl- Admittedly all men but v distinctive, easily achieved and good fun
