I am no good at evening bags so please help me!

I'd like a go-everywhere evening bag (I prefer the term 'going out bag' as 'evening bag' says ballgowns and cocktail dresses to me!).

Something that I can sling on if I'm out for evening with hubby or mates. Pref cross-body, but that won't look ridiculous on one shoulder. Not too casual looking.

I can't decide on colour. I want something that will go with most evening outfits. Which tells me black. But I have a lot of day bags and most are tan or grey or similar neutral shades, and only one is black. Tan is my colour of choice for accessories, but I am not sure it will work for 'going out'??

Style-wise, I thought I would be looking for something classic and quilted with a chain (bit naff now??). But I was in Oxford Street John Lewis yesterday and saw this gorgeous Aspinal number which told me maybe mock croc is the way to go. But didnt like the chain and the clasp - too brassy/flashy - and probably too expensive for something not perfect.

I liked that black Anya Hindmarch bag that I think it was Mrs B that linked to it recently. Probably a bit big for evening and too pricey for me, but a stunning bag.

Can anyone help??

Anything at Jaeger?

woopsidaisy · 31/03/2011 14:00

Check out Angel Jackson.
Some lovely things in the sale too...

sweetmelody · 31/03/2011 17:43

@ woopsidaisy - some lovely things on that site but not much evening-wise with a shoulder strap.

But tethersend has come up trumps again! This proves how indecisive I am. I was in Jaeger buying a (heavily reduced, but gorgeous) dress, and I had already spotted that Albany quilted bag. But I didn't think, and the assistant agreed with me, that it was really a cross-body bag. But now I have re-read the description on the site, it is described as cross body?? They've a tiny picture of it here on a model. Does the strap look too short to you??

I really love the look of their Leicester bag, but its just a regular length shoulder bag....

Odd question, but what size are you? the Albany bag could works well as a cross body bag if you are small, but if, like me, you have boobage then I don't think it would work.

I love the Leicester one, but I refer shoulder bags to cross-body (boobs again).

I have this from Jaeger which has a long strap- there are many other bags left in store, such as this smaller one, so it might be worth going and seeing if they've any sale stock left?

@ woopsidaisy. I've just been back to the Angel Jackson site and realised that I wasn't scrolling through the styles properly. LOADS of evening bags with shoulder straps Hmm

@ tethersend. I didnt know House of Fraser stocked so many great brands (and had such a good sale on). Could actually justify the Albany at that price now :) I am quite small of boobage (although have just being measured as a 32C at John Lewis after wearing 34B for half my life, but I digress...). As you suggest, will need to hurry down and see what they have in store.

However, I think I'm in love.....

with this

Its a lot of money though Confused
