Jeans for the squishy tummy

I need jeans.

I hate jeans shopping.

My tummy sticks out. It always has done. Even as a little, size 8, never been pregnant teen my tummy stuck out a little. Possibly because my back is very curved. Anyway I have always had trouble with 99% of jeans being too snug at the front and leaving a gap at the back.

I now have 2 children, no tummy, muscles, muscle separation and my tummy is decidedly squishy. Still a size 8 but wobbly and due to muscle separation I look like I'm pregnant after eating.

I have some Gap jeans but I only wear them out of the house and hate eating in them. At home I change into tracksuit bottoms or undo the jeans button. All jeans I try on fit fine everywhere else but I struggle to do up the button. Going up a size means they are way too big on the arse and legs. The main issue is the button, it digs into the wobbly bits and is very uncomfortable. I need stuff that sits higher up rather than onthe hips.

I have some amazing jeans from Miss Selfridge. They had a panel at teh front and buttoned up either side so there was nothing squashing teh flab and they fitted perfectly. They still fit perfectly but they have a massive, beyond repair hole in them :(

What can I try? Shops I can get to are fairly limited high street shops, each time I order online and have to return stuff it eats into my very limited budget. I ordered some high waisted jeans from miss selfridge online but sadly while the arse and legs are wonderful the high waist just shoves all the wobble up to spill out over the top. They were also very, very high waisted and came to well above my waist!

Flares please :) I have fat thighs.

bump!

Asda. I love Asda for jeans. I am similar to you, only a size 12. They do £12 bootcut/flared jeans that sit up higher - not as high to be uncomfortable or look unsightly, but high enough to tame a tummy! They also do a Moda range, which have built in panels to help flatten the tummy - about £25 and well worth it at such a bargain!

I love Next for boyfriend style which sit slightly higher than hipsters, but they can be unforgiving on bad days. I have 3 pairs of the Asda ones and find them so comfortable, and not bagging round the bum at all.

next high waist jeans have the waist where a womans waist actually is, thank god. I love them

I've got the curved spine thing too. I always get a baggy bit at the back.

I've seen Levi's do a curved jean but it's £££ :(

ooooh sale Grin

Nagoo · 30/03/2011 19:59

size 8 for you BTW, I'm too big.

Indith · 30/03/2011 20:08

Asda. We have an Asda somewhere, sounds promising :) Also have Next, just need to get into town without my children on a day that isn't a Next Sale and therefore full of shite and millions of women with their elbows out.

I think I tried the Levi curved one on once a while back. Hum. Maybe if I ever make it into Newcastle for trying on purposes. I hate online shopping for clothes, you can't see stuff and you have to pay to try it on!

Dinner time now, back tomorrow probably :)

Indith, if you do a voucher search you should be able to find a code for free delivery from Next - and then its free returns if you take them to the shop.

I bribe my son with sweets and toys in asda - means I get him to behave whilst I try on jeans, and then he gets some tat from their £1 aisle!

i feel your pain, i got a flattering pair from new look they are £29.99 and come with a cheap belt which i bin, they make my bum and legs look good, well i feel good in them, have washed well so i've bought a second pair.

Bribary only owkrs on the girl child who will sit and eat chocolate. The boy is unbribable. I am just going to have to head in one SAturday and try on every pair of jeans there is. Dug out a pair of size 10 the same as my perfect, now worn through, jeans that I had for post baby and they are too big, at least I know it isn't me trying not to admit I've put on weight!

Can you take your size 10's to a dressmaker and get her to alter them? Prob cost a tenner??

MrsP2006 · 04/04/2011 20:58

I just bought these and they're great for my post c-sect tummy

I would definitely recommend the Next High Waisted jeans (the ones with 3-4 buttons at the front). Can't believe how they flatten my dreadful post-twins-and-c-section tummy yet are really comfortable. When I'm wearing them I don't have to worry about what top to wear i.e I don't have to think does that top make my stomach look big? as they are so flattering. You can easily order them online - you can order as many pairs as you like and you only have to pay for the ones you keep as you get an invoice afterwards rather than having to pay by credit card. Where I live you can also get the courier to collect the ones you don't want so you don't even have to go to the shops to return them!

I have tried on every pair of jeans on the high street that happened to be on the rail in my size - that's how it feels anyway.

I too have a squishy tummy and also substantial thighs, even though I am a size 10 (12 on a bad day). I ahve found that Gap Curvy jeans are by far the best fit on me, as they hold my tummy in enough and fit everywhere else, which makes me look slimmer. They don't gape at all on the back either.
