I'm looking after my DN tonight. It's the first time my sister has let her stay overnight anywhere so we're having lots of fun and games and things with my DS. DN is 4 and for reasons she can't explain, thought it might be quite a fun thing to do to rub half a pot of vaseline into her hair when I thought she was having a poodle in the bathroom.

So far I've washed her hair with shampoo and washing up liquid and she still looks like a Chip-Shop-Annie. My Sister is coming to get her tomorrow morning so we have an evening to de-grease her. ADVICE PLEASE!!!!!

Should add, DN has long blonde hair passed her shoulders. Just to add to it all ...

I've just dealt with this in the last few weeks. You need to rub cornflour, really really well in to dry hair, and then rinse off with washing up liquid. Sounds bizarre but I promie it works. My ds slathered a whole tub into his hair and this fixed it (it did take 2 attempts over as many days though)

heehee, i'm sorry shouldnt laugh but have this great mental picture of her! i was probably going to suggest fairy liquid too? or a hat? haircut? hopefully your sister will see the funny side of this - i know i would.

sounds like you're all having grt fun thoug!

sunshineandshowers13 · 29/03/2011 18:42

sorry xpost - sounds like a plan!

Olessaty · 29/03/2011 18:45

Sudocreme is another bugger to get out. Good luck. x

boobooglass she's telling me it burns when I try and dry her hair with the hairdryer?!?! ARGHHHHH ... Towel dry before cornflour you reckon? Or sit tight for an hour or two? ARGHHHH!!

And you're right sunshine - DS and DN think this is the funniest thing in the world EVER.

O god no don't use a hairdryer it'll get really hot and make it worse.
Leave it for a while, towel dry it and get the cornflour on it. It is a funny sight, my ds looked like Andy Warhol all covered in it, so let her take a mirror in and she's more likely to comply

This trick worked for another poster who had a DD with lip balm in her hair.

rub in vegetable oil which will dissolve the vaseline, then wash in shampoo to remove the oil/vaseline mixture.

Good luck

We're all cornfloured up. DS has some in his hair too ... Heck, why not ...

Smile

oggybags · 29/03/2011 22:52

my friends little boy did this with mac foundation
we tried not to tell him off to loudly because we had had a glass of wine and were laughing to much but it was EVERYWHERE bedding, clothing, him, landing....
the next day when it needed replacing at 50euros not so fun

twolittlemonkeys · 30/03/2011 10:41

did the cornflour work then?

TattyDevine · 30/03/2011 14:58

Dont you have to then scrape the cornflour-dough out?

Yikes, better you than me.

If your child ever puts lipstick in their hair, Dermologica "precleanse" which is an emollient type oil gets it out a treat. In fact, I'd hazard a guess it would make sort work of vaseline too, however its unlikely the OP has some in!

wobblyweeble82 · 30/03/2011 17:44

The cornflour didn't really work :( But a few washes in Fairy and vinegar and I reckon I sent her packing with relatively normal hair ... She didn't half stink though, little love. I shan't even go into the state of the bathroom this morning ... Nor my towels ... If only I weren't all of a pregnant - I NEED a glass of something red and tar-like!! Thanks for all the help though, you wonderful people you Grin
