I can't decide between this dress in purple or brown (beige?).

I love the purple colour of the first but would the other colour be more suitable for a July wedding and more practical/non-garish?

If it helps I have very pale white skin, green eyes and mid brown/auburn hair. I'm a 14 up top and an 18 hips.

Purple definitely

The brown is nicer with your colouring, and more versatile with accessories in gold/green/amber/rust etc.

But the purple one is £12.90!! Why not buy them both?!!

TruthSweet · 26/03/2011 16:36

Can't afford both unfortunately but v v tempting all the same - hence the decision to be made between them.

I like practical beige but I love the purple just don't have a clue what to accessorise with it.

Got to go with the purple - don't have my size in the brown.

Do I accessorise with cream/nude shoes/bag (not matching though I'm not 70 Wink) or another colour? I'm not going to attempt colour match to the purple as I think it will be too hard.

Also, do I wear real jewellery or costume stuff?

I think purple looks good with berry colours, so shades of plum, dark blackberry, magenta etc.

What jewellery do you have? A statement necklace would work well, then you can keep any other bits simple and understated.

TruthSweet · 27/03/2011 18:24

I've a lot of amethyst jewellery (inc. a 28ct pendant!) or long beads in burgundy or teal, or a silver tanzanite pendant (stones are titchy though) but I'm not sure if I want to match or contrast with the dress. I'm not so keen on matchy matchy ensembles as I think on me they look a bit 'try hard'.

Funnily enough, I have just bought a so dark it's almost black purple patent bag but I get the feeling it would be a bit funereal for a wedding.

I was thinking something like this for the shoes.

Not white for the shoes though surely? Also think you need something with more of a heel to dress it up.

i like the seagrass colour tbh, the purple is too much imo. it would be more suitable for july, and you could name you colour with the accesories.

pink4ever - I'm a bit tall and clumsy for high heels (says she who used to wear and run in 5 or 6 inch heels at 5'8"). The bride is barely 5' so will tower over her if I wear heels so I just feel like the big fat one in any pictures.

What colour do you suggest?

piratecat - I really liked the seagrass but the smallest size is a 22/24 which I'm think I'm not though looking at their size guide I might be (36F up top and 44" hips). Was counting on the 'loose fit' to be a generous cut....

If you don't like heels what about a slingback kitten heel ? can look very feminine without being clumsy looking.
