Does anyone epilate their underarms?

I tried it this morning and it chuffin hurt.

If you do, how often do you find yourself doing it to maintain hairfreeness? Is it work fighting through the pain?

It is excruciatingly painful the first time or so, now, not so much

I will do as much as I can bear, there are always invariably bits I miss, nonetheless this leaves me hairfree or only requiring a touch up for a while

If I shave I have 5 o clock shadow!Shock anything is an improvement

I only do this in the warmer armpit exposing months

ChasingSquirrels · 26/03/2011 16:22

occasionally, when I first did it I found it much less painful than my legs.
In general I tweezer out my underarms though, so epilating is no different.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 26/03/2011 16:26

I do.

I run the epilator over once a week or so so catch them before they get long and ouchy and to keep the skin reasonably tough! Hurts more than legs and was eye watering at first but much easier now and worth persisting with IMO.

AutumnWitch · 26/03/2011 18:35

Me too, the first time was agony though. Now it's just a bit uncomfortable as I think the hair follicles have got weaker over time. Also I try to do it at least once a week so there are fewer hairs to go each session.

Much better than shaving, especially in summer as a daily shave often caused irritation for me.

coastgirl · 26/03/2011 18:36

I do. It was so so painful the first time but now I can honestly say it barely even stings. It's quicker than shaving for me and no weird black shadow like I get even when freshly shaved.

TattyDevine · 26/03/2011 18:49

I do. Nasty the first time. Not too bad now. Dont let them get too long. Take a nurofen first if you really struggle! Do it after a shower. My one you can even do in the shower but I dont to be honest, I just do it after.

Hurt like chuff the first time though. Legs never hurt because I had been a waxer but I was an underarm virgin.

AtYourCervix · 26/03/2011 18:57

I drew blood the only time I did mine.

bigbabushkas · 26/03/2011 19:41

Can anyone recommend a good make? Been thinking about buying one.

Ephiny · 26/03/2011 20:41

It was very sore the first time - glad I'm not the only one who thought so! Much more bearable the second time though and I'm hoping it'll improve each time.

I think it's worth persisting because it lasts so much longer than shaving and is much easier to do than waxing for awkward areas like armpits.

Right I'm persevering with the pain as hopefully it will be short lived and will mean I don't have to shave every day in the summer.

Big I have a braun one similar to this

I have the same Braun one as netbook, I wanted mains-powered as I'm not bothered about epilating in the bath/shower, and from my experience with shavers cordless is annoying as the charge doesn't last very long and you have to plan in advance when you want to use it to make sure it's charged up.
