Too fat for trousers...would maternity clothes help?

I've been feeling a bit miserable lately worrying about the weight I've put on and how awful I look. None of my clothes fit me very well but I've been able to semi-disguise it with my heavier winter clothes. Spring is here and I'm panicking about what I'm going to wear and how I'll look.

Trousers are a real problem for me. I can't find trousers that fit me well around the tummy area and I always end up with a terrible overhang/muffin top. So I was wondering. Would wearing maternity trousers when not pregnant solve this problem? Would it help?

what size are you? have you looked at YOURS online?????

LindaLaPlumeDeMaTente · 25/03/2011 17:08

Maternity trousers are cut very differently

have you tried control pants? Just until you lose the weight?

Do you carry all your weight around your middle?

Celestialstarlight · 25/03/2011 17:12

No Bonkerz I haven't looked at Yours. I'll go have a look now though.

Linda Yip My belly is very large in proportion to the rest of me except for my big boobs. So I look bigger than I really am.

Thank you. I've just had a look and saved the "Yours" wesite to my favourites. I'll give them a try so thanks for pointing me in their direction Smile I'm a size 14. When I go up sizes to try and accomodate my huge tummy the trouser legs are always really baggy or the bum is baggy. So the tummy thing is a huge issue for me. So much that I tend not to shop for clothes unless I really need to because I feel like a freak. I know though that my tops would look so much better on me if I could find decent trousers to fit. I use control pants too but tbh my tummy is really huge and they only help so much.

My tummy has for the last 4 years been an issue for me but last year I became ill and I've put about an extra stone on. So it is worse now than ever!

Evans start at a size 14, and are cut differently to other clothes shops. Might be worth trying some on in there?

LindaLaPlumeDeMaTente · 25/03/2011 17:53

Sounds like getting the right cut of trousers most important thing - a 14 is not exactly huge unless you are only 5 ft tall!

So you are an apple shape-try Gap curvy jeans they are flattering

zandy · 25/03/2011 17:57

No harm in trying on the maternity trousers. If it is all just belly, they might be just the ticket. But, size 14 is by no stretch of the imagination 'huge'.

Celestialstarlight · 25/03/2011 18:19

Thanks for all of your input Smile

I'm 5'2. My belly is huge and my boobs are a GG cup. So this makes me look like a wee round barrell bigger than I really am. I wouldn't mind as much though if I could find clothes that "fit". I've tried Gap and they were a no go but I'll try Evans and see how I get on there Smile

I'm a similar shape - I just found a pair of high waisted jeans from Next that look pretty good. Have a huge post-baby belly that isn't showing any signs of shifting and they're the first trousers I've tried that look great.

QueeferSutherland · 25/03/2011 23:00

I can also reccomend high-waisted jeans. They have a corset like effect. Wear under a tunic/long T.

Maternity trews will just have a pouch for your belly to fill.

(I am size 14, 5'5", and look 6 months pg since having a coil fitted.)

Celestialstarlight · 26/03/2011 00:15

Ok, so tomorrow I'll try Evans and Next and look for high waisted jeans/trousers. I think I'm going to order from "Yours" online too. I'll let you know how i get on.

Thank you for all your advice Grin
