Converse

Am I too oldtoofat--to wear them and if not, what would I wear them with?

I'm having a fashion crisis. I'm 37, quite short at 5'3 with wide hips so find it hard to wear 'casual' trousers. I have no idea where to start for this Summer???

Please help?

I have red ones with white "converse" in writing all over them. I wear them with jeans or combats. I am 43.

A good place to look for them more cheaply if you are not sure you would actually wear them is T K Maxx. I got mine in there for £20 and have never seen another pair like them.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 24/03/2011 10:46

i love my converse

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 24/03/2011 10:48

greeneyes- I'm 37. 5ft3 with wide hips and everything else

I wear the shoe style with dresses and skirts and the boot ones with jeans. I wear mine with everything.

There was a thread on here a couple of weeks back about what to wear with converse. I'll see if I can find it.

I am braving shoe shopping with DD1 aged 12 on the way to a hospital appointment today (it suits as am getting her out of school at lunchtime and we won't be back in time)

I was considering Converse for her and me - I'm 41 and fat. Am I too old and too frumpy?

She needs shoes rather than pumps due to podiatry issues so was hoping that the Converse would be acceptable for the very fussy wee madam

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 24/03/2011 11:17

ShortArseFuck- love your name- you are NOT too old and frumpy. Don't be daft. My DD (10) loves her red converse as does DS (3). DD wanted us all to have the same colour but luckily they didn't have the red ones in my size so I had to get cream. We do look a bit odd in our matching footwear but he gives a flying fuck about what strangers think?

DarrellRivers · 24/03/2011 11:20

Do you get hot sweaty feet in converse?

bilblio · 24/03/2011 11:29

I love converse, I'm 33.
The main reason I love them is I have odd sized feet and I know a size 7 will fit be comfy and not rub. I've gt so many shoes in the cupboard that I haven't been able to wear more than a couple of times that I've now just given up and stick with Converse and Dr Martens.

When we got married DH wore totally black converse, as did the best man, and I found some red DrMarten sandals.
I had great fun seeing the look of shock on people's faces when I said I was wearing Dockers with my knee length wedding dress :o

Pinkjenny · 24/03/2011 11:30

I've just bought my first pair. I haven't been brave enough to wear them yet.

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/03/2011 11:32

I love them- and I am very very old but I don't care ! (52) I wear the blue ones- any 'wacky' colours and designs I think are 'trying too hard' for those of us older, in my opinion

TeamLemon · 24/03/2011 11:35

I love my Converse. Been wearing them since I was 16 (now 31).
I too am short and fat, but they are great with jeans, skirts, anything!
I even wear mine to work, to dress down a dress or smart trousers - If I where smart shoes everyone wonders who I'm trying to impress!

At the moment I have red boots and grey shoes. Both DS have a pair of boots, although they refer to them as "Dr Who Shoes"!

paulapantsdown · 24/03/2011 11:41

I too have been wearing Converse since I was about 16 - now 42. I have about 10 pairs in differenct colours. Why care whay anyone else thinks if you like them?

greeneyesbigbottom · 24/03/2011 14:20

I think I'm going to go for it!!

Now I'm going to either spend all afternoon trying to choose which one's??? Grin or someone can point me in the right direction (please).

I wear skinny jeans usually, and own a few summery skirts, but my calves are massive slightly large which make my legs look stumpy. I'm thinking the low ones but there are so many to choose from?
