Matching or not?

What are the rules for handbag and shoe colour matching?

If you wear a bright red handbag, then I would say team it with a scarf or belt that matches, or indeed shoes. If it's just a tan everyday bag then you dont have to have tan shoes on.

I try to match if I can, but i'm not that bothered tbh..Grin

depends on colours

block bright colours are very on trend so if you had a navy dress for example, bright red shoes and a green bag would look cool

but for casual wear, I like to have a brown bag and brown boots for example, or similar tones

I had grey sandals on today and felt very uncomfortable as I had grabbed my tan hanbag as I ran out the door. I must have had it drummed into me thats bags and shoes had to be matching or maybe just realised it really looked pants!!

I have some distant recollection of Anna Wintour saying sniffily that bag and shoes in the same colour is "too matchy-matchy". No idea why - but use this to justify my complete lack of co-ordination chic "melange" approach to accessorising.

Agree with Verso. My DM has worked with handbag designers for over 35 years, matching shoes and bag is very 80's. I always match mine though [80's teen emoticon] or at least colours from the same 'family'.

CherryMonster · 20/03/2011 20:59

mine never match, but i do always make sure that they dont clash!for example, i would never wear brown shoes and carry a black or grey handbag. currently am wearing black boots, and my handbag is white with all different colours all over it. (sounds awful but it actually works)

Thanks for your replies. This will be a hard one to knock out of me. I just bought a purple bag so will not be matchiung shoes with that.

Matching shoes and bags is only acceptable if you are the queen Grin

with formal wear it's a bit 'mother of the bride' IMO. Ok if it's similar though, e.g. different tones of same colour? Depends on what situation you're talking about I suppose.
