Anyone else have permanently bloodshot eyes? Even when I get heaps of sleep, I still have bloodshot eyes. What can I do?!

Is something irritating your eyes? I wear lenses so I tend to get bloodshot if I overwear them. I get bloodshot eyes depending on what nighttime skincare products I use, or sometimes mascara? Just an idea.
I know you can get eye drops with witch hazel in them which will constrict the blood vessels, but you might want to find out the root of the problem, maybe a trip to the opticians?

Owl post I've just been banned from contacts for a month by my optition. My contacts (daysoft) were not letting enough oxygen to my eyes which was causing blood vessels to grow. Definitely a trip to the optition for you, just in case.

Thanks - I don't wear contacts, but was actually considering getting some. I do sometimes leave mascara on overnight - perhaps that's what's causing it?

I really wouldn't leave mascara on overnight. It won't help.

Have you tried Omega 3 oil? If I take it daily, my eyes are ok. If I forget for a few days (like this week) my eyes are bloodshot (like they are now).

Zettelbox - thanks for the tip, I might give it a go!

OOh good thread. My eyes are looking bleary at the moment...down to sleep deprivation though! Does anyone know if teabags work?

bettybattleaxe · 24/03/2011 22:07

Get to an opticians for a free eye test. They can see if you might have pterygium.

ValiumSingleton · 25/03/2011 12:16

omega3 oil, will have to try that. I also have permanently bloodshot eyes, I don't smoke, wear eyemake, drink too much..... they are just always bloodshot. What is pterygium?

bettybattleaxe · 25/03/2011 14:28

here. Harmless until it begins to obscure the vision, I believe.

ValiumSingleton · 25/03/2011 18:46

blimey!

Well, I don't have that thank goodness, as I definitely don't have any sensation of having a foreign body in my eye. I'll try the omega 3 oil for sure though!

Bunbaker · 25/03/2011 18:48

Free eye test? I don't think so. A trip to the GP to rule out an eye infection won't cost anything, but eye tests aren't free unless you are a pensioner or on benefit.

OiVaVoi · 25/03/2011 19:46

oh god that's a horrible pic bettybattleaxe
i too have horrid bloodshot eyes, there's a permanent blotchy veiny splodge on my left eye. it gets a lot worse when i smoke and/or drink.

Mine are always free at D&A or TescoConfused. I usually wait for an offer to appear on Martin Lewis's website.
