I would normally advocate against mixing brown and grey and black - but it just worked.

Tulpe - yup i dont know why - but it worked. Skirt is more of a charcoal grey with light grey. But you have put seeds of doubt in my mind!

and the piece de resistance..... my dad's Barbour shooting jacket (with faint smell of wet dog) as it's the only coat I can do up.

I look like a 50s department store assistant:

black dress, pink cardi, black tights. Shoeless because wandering aimlessly, mournfully considering housework (not actually setting-about-it).

So others can know if you're a cheapskate in manmade fibres or a woman of great taste and discernment.

My gas mask is by Madam Gres.

I only put them on because i have seen others do the same and i am a sheep
