Ouch...Bad Reaction to Emollient !!!

I was in the shower tonight and decided to use some Hydrous Ointment in place of my dove soap (which lately has been leaving my skin tight and dry).

I wiped it off with a hot cloth and at first my face looked lovely. After about 10 mins my face started tingling, then got worse until it was really burning and painful Shock

I washed it off and my face has gone bright red in areas. I have soothed most of the pain by applying Aloe Vera Gel.

Does anybody know what happened ? I have never heard of it reacting on someones face like that ?? I have never had a reaction like that to anything before !!

Ouch!! Hydrous ointment is another name for aqueous cream, which for years has been recommended to people with skin conditions... but recently people seem to have woken up to the fact that yes, it CAN cause irritations and reactions! Google aqueous cream+reaction and you'll find a ton of stuff...

I too react to it, and am possibly still bitter from when as a child I was told by my GP (who had prescribed it), that no, it could not POSSIBLY make the stinging worse...

If you have reactive skin, please don't use soap on it. If you can spend some £, I'd recommend THIS which I always turn to if I get a reaction from anything else. If you're on more of a budget, look at the hypo-allergenic ranges like Simple, or Boots/Tesco's etc own versions.

DS1 was recommended aqueous cream for his eczema - diagnosed at 10 months. I repeatedly told the GP it was making his skin worse and I was told it was just part of the condition. Funnily enough, when I finally went with instinct and used homeopathic/aromatherapy products the eczema cleared up.

If you want an efficient but gentle cleanser, try Clean Slate by Mama Mio. Gorgeous product, no nasties in it and absolutely does the job. I have been using the range since November and have never had such great skin (line has only just launched but I was one of their testers).
