The big 40 is fast approaching.. Sept. Friends and family are asking what I'd like to do to celebrate. Its lovely that they want to make it special but ahhhh? Gifts/ parties? Has anyone else had a great birthday and got ideas?

A new Mulberry bag? A MULBERRY BAG !!!! Great friends but they may tell me to swing it. Escape somewhere nice does sound great. My mother in law wants to buy me something special to keep?!! I fancied some dubarry boots but yeh right, bit pricey methinks.

I am approaching 40 too...

Dh and I are planning a weekend in London with 2 very close friends.

I'm not the type to have a party.

Should my mother/mil be kind enough to enquire about a gift, I quite like earrings.

I like the escape with dh idea. Bit scared of the big party ... Love the idea about buying one boot!!Piece of jewellery would be a great gift. Happy 40th lollipop!! Crept round quicker than the 30th did eh?

Had various ideas for mine. In the event, spent the evening on the sofa with horrific morning sickness, vomited a couple of times, then went to bed at 8pm. Happy though!

Think I will do something with the girlies to raise a glass or three and then couple of days away with dh and dd. Hint at Rome.....

DH took me and 12 friends out for a lovely meal as I'm not the party type either. We had a fab night - ended up in a nightclub for the first time in years.

Why not take some special friends somewhere you have longed to go but never got around to? eg the West End to see a show. or to a nice restaurant, or to the coast or stay in a hotel or spa.......

sailorsgal · 17/03/2011 17:42

I took two friends to Monte Carlo. It was fab! Credit card took a bit of a dent but worth it.

sigh me too, this week. want a Biba bag, cheaper than Mulberry but me and DP on a Primark budget at mo! Sad
hope you do get something amazing though!

I was thoroughly spoilt for my 40th and taken to the Maldives - just DH and I.......twas only in January but already feels like a lifetime ago . He bought me a gorgeous pendant from here too and my closest friend bought me a Love Links bracelet so the DCs gave me charms for it :)

DH also arranged a meal with my close girlfriends & their partners plus my family. It was very low key but really lovely :)

Its amazing isn't it? Spend most of my time thinking it would be lovely to do something different/special then when the chance comes its like blheahh, what to do?...... I'm very lucky that people have even thought about it!! I definately want to do something with friends, been through a lot with the mum gang and get little chance to do something special together without kids. I'll get googling for ideas. Cheers everyone.
